We always use CAT 3 for voice too unless otherwise requested. If purchased in quantity, the price isn't very close to CAT 5e at all.

Commscope's wire in boxes seems to be pretty good about not tangling so we use it whenever it's available. Reels in boxes haven't ever really worked very well in my opinion.

While I agree that payout from reels makes pulling multiple runs much smoother, I can't get my installers to accept them. They all prefer boxes since they are easier to stack/store in the trucks. I guess I have to agree on that note.

Boxes definately. Some brands are better than others when it comes to snags, and even reels have their snags now and then. Setup time is just so much faster with boxes.

In theory, it's great to use Cat5e for both voice and data, but as Hal mentioned, do you really want the hassle of terminating more Cat5e than you need to? On one hand it's great to future proof by using data ready cable for voice, on the other hand, I don't think I've ever been back to a site to use that Cat5e voice run for data.

I haven't used Cat3 in years and I prefer the box Reels are nice but it takes to much tension to pull off when working alone boxes pull much easier.

Boxes without question. Easier payoff, storage and setup.

We use Cat 3 for voice as well.

boxs don't have backlash.

I pretty much only purchase cat-5 now.

Always use reels; can't stand those snags and kinks. The only down fall with reels is carrying the equipment around to setup the reels.

Normal payout from a box has been fine for me.

I have run into snag problems when pulling cable out after having pushed excess cable back in at an earlier time.
