Because there is no ceiling. Next time you are at HD look up and envision everything painted white.

Since I brought HD up notice that all their cables are run in pipe (not J hooks) to IDFs high up on the wall. Blends right in with the decor.

How about using PVC gutterring downspout and cutting them in strips to cover J hooks ,Are they concerned about the cable or just the J hooks.

Yes, it's tiny compared to the rest.

Hal is right if you have open ceilings there is no way its plenum.

If your talking just J hooks, paint them.

This reminds me of a job from hell where the ceilings were open and the IT manager would not allow for the cable to be painted, the chemicals in the paint would ruin the cable. I think he used to much chemicals in his life. We installed wire mold, wire mold, wire mold and more wire mold. Once all the cable was ran and the wire mold capped off it was painted. Did I mention we installed wire mold

I've done some cabling jobs where the ceiling space was left open on purpose. Ceiling grid was even installed, just no ceiling tiles. "Cablofil" tray was used everywhere and looked really nice. Sometimes being able to see all the systems in a buiding is interesting (fire, electrical, HVAC, etc). Maybe you could get them to purchase cable tray to show off a structred cable install? May look more "profesional" than just a simple j-hook even if it is overkill. Also could be a selling point for their firms customers who may visit their building for work/contracts. Just my .02

You could use white pvc rain gutter downspout, split it ,place it over j-hooks and cable bundles, cut out for conduits ,They make splice covers 90's etc,the grooves would add an architectural touch, wouldn't have to take nothing down.
