Hey guys, You'll have to excuse me for being completely clueless as to almost everything to do with telephone cables and the like, so I apologise in advance for frustrating you with my lack of knowledge smile .

Anyway, Some room switching needs to be done, and it's a good opportunity to replace some telephone cables (No idea what sort, they're just your standard plug-into-wall phone cables).

The problem is that 2 cables run parallel across the front of a doorway, and they've gotten extremely ripped up over the last few years, mostly because of an impatient cat.

One wire is completely missing it's outer case and you can see all the multi-coloured wires inside.

Basically we need to cut the wire away before the damaged area and add an extension that will take the wire up around the door frame and down to the other side. As there's 2 wires, we'll need to get hold of 2 extension pieces and make a total of 2 repairs, one for each wire.

The main problem is, I have no idea how to do it. I did some electronics back in school so i'm not entirly useless when it comes to connecting things, just as these are phone wires, I don't know how similar they are and what I can get away with.

If someone could Identify and tell me the most effective way of achieving this, It'd be extremely well appreciated.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, or If i'm asking a dead question or anything.

I'll post pictures of the area and problem later on if this thread picks up.

Thanks for your time.

If they are just telephone wires and not data you can splice in a piece of cable the most important thing is to get the same type wire and match color to color. Get the pics posted so we can see what type of wire is in use.

While you can splice the cables , replacing the cable would probably be best /easier in the long run .
