I've been using the Unicam with the light source. It works like a charm and gives you the confidence that you have a good fit before crimping. Mechanical splices like these are perfectly acceptable for your typical business LAN environment.

Unicams with the newer light source tool are great.

Ditto here too. We had a very high failure rate when using Unicams with the original tool. Ours got stolen and we had to buy the new one with the light source and it works flawlessly.

I've never had any luck using type LC Unicam connectors though. I've standardized with ST or SC and use factory patch cables when LC or MTRJ connectors are requested.

I have the older Unicam tools. Can you retrofit the "light pencil" to the older tools, or is it built in?

The lightsource should work with either tool, but double check with your Corning/Unicam rep.If you don't have a rep -call them direct, their very helpful.

The unicam tool we have has the lighsource built in to the crimper. It gives a green light when the connector has been crimped properly. Like others have said we used to have some failures using the old tools. This could have been possibly the clever life running out. The Corining rep also told us you should never have a failure using unicams using the new tools and Corning would reimburse money and any that did fail.
