We just finshed up a combines voice/data install at one of our major client locations and a telus tech showed me via his trace set there was signal cross three jacks.
I did not terminate the data center bix wafers for voice so know it was not of my doing but want to know if the wires that were terminated properly on the bix wafers would a service loop cause the cross talk?
I have always put some kind of service loop often because it is stated in the specs for the station end. In this case we had an ass of a employee not pull in the last 10 feet of cable into the NOC for perhaps 10 wires and left in a service loop form in the riser closet. Would this cause cross talk? This is UTP white belden cable.

My first guess would be split pairs someplace.

Put a cable tester on those outlets indicated...it will show which pairs are good or bad.

service loops generally don't cause cross talk. Like Hal said, sounds like some crossed pairs or bad pairs.

You say that they are terminated on BIX blocks  . Make sure that they are on BIX1A or BIX1A4 blocks, not 2A, 5A or 7A blocks. These are bridging blocks. Definately sounds like split pairs though.

A Telus tech that has test gear. All the guys in this area only have toners and probes. But you need a tester and test it yourself.

Specifically something more than a simple pair tester. Wayne is referring to a Fluke analyzer, Pentascanner, something that will give a wire map and then test all pair combinations.

Yah, I wouldn't trust a trace set to tell you if you have crossed pairs, put a fluke on there and you will find the answer. Service loops could cause cross talk, because they are inductance loops.

It must be split pairs. My guess would be that the jacks in question are wired "USOC", which effectively splits all of the pairs up for the most part. Nobody uses that standard anymore, but many jack manufacturers include the diagrams in their packaging. Maybe someone was asleep at the wheel.

Any kind of electromagnetic interference (EMI) could cause this. It can be either inductive or capacitive.
