For whatever reason, most businesses I have worked at/installed cable in use ivory faceplates. UT has standardized on white plates, white 8p8c jacks for voice (cat3), blue cat 6 for data, and yellow cat 6 for the campus ID card readers.

I use what ever color the customer is using for electrical plates etc. The voice jack will match the plate. I put all of the data on orange jacks and any auxilary equipment faxes modems etc on blue. No rhyme or reason just what I do.
If I am adding to existing location that some one else started I will follow the protocol they started.

Most of what I've seen over the years here has been White for Voice and Blue for Data. Everything else is up for grabs. Color coding in and of itself is the right way to go. It makes troubleshooting and Add ons much easier.
Sam Same here.

Same as Sam here also. I don't even bother with anything but white faceplates unless the customer specifically requests it.

Wall plates should match the color of the rest of the electrical wall plates otherwise it looks like a hack job.
We used to stock both white and ivory but now it's just white because that's what is most often used. I see some almond but ivory looks like it has gone out of style. I still have some gray that I keep for one job I did about 7 or 8 years ago. Every once and a while I have to add something for them.

The plan specs usually specifiy the colors. If not then it is blue for data and white or ivory for the voice depending on the faceplate color. I also use orange from time to time. Sometimes the customer wants the jacks to match the carpet. Once they had us pull all the blue jacks for red to match their decor. What a PITA that was. It really does not matter but just for simplicity keep the same pattern as much as you can.
