I need to install a fiber from existing equipment room to new addition equipment room. Haven't measured yet, but about 200 feet, in a 2 inch pcv conduit with two bends. conduit is new and empty and is in a crawl space. No direct buried or outdoors.
The fiber will tie together two new data switches which will have fiber connections built in to the switch. Switch mfg and model hasn't been determined yet.
After reading other posts in the forum, I'll use at least a 6 fiber, maybe 12 fiber cable. Since I don't do any fiber terminations myself, I would like to order the cable with the terminations installed from the factory. What kind of cable would you recommend for this application?
Thanks. Jim

Is the conduit dragged or are you going to have to rod and rope it first?
Are the bends 90's or are they "street ells" (180s)? Trying to rod around 180's is going to be a problem. So will pulling preterminated cable.
If it's only 200' then you won't need Single mode fiber. Multi mode should work fine - I would recommend 50 micron (aqua) as opposed to the 62.5 (orange) - you'll get better results. If the pipe is adequate (was it installed by people who knew what they were doing?) then I would go for 12 strand.
You can't be too rich, too thin, or have enough fiber.

Install a measured pull string to determine what length you'll need. FIS will custom make whatever you ask for with pull socks.

It's a new conduit installed by professionals. 2-90 degree sweeps. They're using the pipe for temp electrical service, so when they pull that wire out, I'll have my measurement. I've worked with sparky before, and he'll be sure I'm there for the correct measurements.
I'm more uncertain about the specs for the fiber. Sam's suggestions sound reasonable (multi-mode, 50 micron). What about filled, outside plant type cable versus some sort of indoor type? I'll look at the FIS web site. I'm sure it's easier and has more info than Graybar's!
Thanks. Jim

No kidding. Get pre-terminated indoor/outdoor cable from CSC or Control Cable and be done with it. I/O cable is nearly identical in size to indoor cable, but it has waterproofing compound inside.

Thanks guys. I'll look at the FIS site, and get the i/o cable with pulling eye.
Should have a measurement today. Now I'll have something to do next week!
