I need to run several Cat5e cables from one building to another, a distance of about 120 feet. I plan to use filled, direct buried cables, inside a conduit.

At each end, they will terminate on a Cat5e-compliant 66M50 block, where the circuits will transition to Cat5e inside wire.

The question is...how many "splices" (connections on 66 blocks) can I use and not expect problems with data flow? The scheme will be:

computer - PVC 4-pair - 66 block - protector - buried type wire - protector - 66 block - PVC 4-pair - switch.

On blocks that claim to be Cat5e compliant, are bridging clips allowed to pass a circuit from the left side to the right side, or does the compliance depend upon each circuit using just one side of the 66 block?

I hate to suggest it, but could you use 110 blocks?

Since there's no 'proper' way to do this this, I'd use THESE at both ends of each four-pair cable. That's pretty much the only way to do it, but in order to meet the manufacturer's compliance standards, you would have to use their AC power protection module as a base.

How far do you need to get inside each building. Depending on local code, you can extend DB cable inside a building so many feet. It could have changed by now, but we used to be able to run up to 100 feet into the interior of a building with DB here in Colorado.

In my opinion the proper way to do this is fiber , fiber to media converters or fiber enabled
switch's

I was taught , believe and practice that anytime Ethernet leaves a bldg it should go to fiber

one fiber run rather than "several " db cat 5 no need to worry about protection either

Ed, thank you, those are the exact protectors I intend to use.

I guess I won't need any other intermediate connecting blocks, if I can terminate the DB cables on those protectors.

Fiber is great, but not a choice in this application. It would be overkill and add unnecessary expense. I have two empty 3" metallic conduits in place between the buildings, so pulling whatever I need is easy, and they will have grounding protection.

So, using Cat5e is not correct? It's working fine now, using one Cat5e and a switch.

It's not the Taj Mahal. It's just one office with a couple of computers.

If it were over the 100 meter length, or a complex application, I would use fiber, naturally.
