Personally I like useing cabling better but I do have a wireless router I use as a switch when I need to extent my network I plug it into one of 10Base-T jacks and then I un-plug it when I am done. Here in Calgary their are about 75 wireless networks available from my living room. shut them off when not in use ? https://www.lfpress.com/news/canada/2011/09/08/18658546.html OTTAWA - An Ontario private school has removed its wireless Internet system due to potential health concerns associated to it. Pretty River Academy, located north of Toronto in Collingwood, is a private kindergarten to Grade 12 school with just under 150 students. Officials have switched to a hard-wire Internet system. In May, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer reclassified radio frequency emitted by wireless devices as possibly carcinogenic. The school's principal Roberta Murray Hirst said the new system was fairly effortless to install and the school wanted to choose the safest Internet option. Dr. Magda Havas, who studies environmental contaminants at Trent University, hopes other schools will move towards this model. "This is a much better way of connecting kids to the Internet, it's not nearly as dangerous as wireless," Havas said. There have been no short or long term studies done on the impact of Wi-Fi, though some researchers believe children may absorb more radiation than adults. Students and teachers at a number of Canadian schools have raised concerns about dizziness, headaches and other side effects they believed are linked to wireless exposure. The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario is set to review wireless Internet in schools after educators raised health concerns and voted on the issue during the summer. However, Health Canada insists Wi-Fi is not a big cause for concern. "As long as RF energy levels remain below Health Canada's RF safety guidelines, current scientific evidence supports the assertion that RF energy emissions from Wi-Fi devices are not harmful," the department said in a statement Thursday.

Interesting, as the local school district is doing away with teacher's printer (and attendant ink/toner problems/costs) in every classroom and teachers will now print to copier/printer in office via Wi-Fi. Only problem is, not all of the schools have Wi-Fi. Including the "state-of-the-art" 1 year old, with ground source heating and cooling, solar panels, AND ECO-FRIENDLY, school that my daughter teaches in. You'd think they would have put in a wired network!
We won't even talk about the fact that all printing is to be PDF and the conversion software purchased is slow, hard-to-use, and generally clunky.
Oh yeah, and how about when the printer gets 'hacked' and starts printing..... PORN PDF!

Dave, I wonder who is going to be responsible for making sure the ONE AND ONLY printer in the whole school is operational and has plenty of paper and ink/toner. The more I think about this, the less I think of the idea. Glad it's not my school district. (Note to self, Call Hoke County Schools IT dept Monday and warn them of the pitfalls BEFORE it's too late.)

FdTech, I thought so, too. Wouldn't "wired 6 schools for wireless" be an 'oxymoron'? Like "Jumbo Shrimp", and "military intelligence".

What about everybodies cell phones? Do they lock them up far outside the building in a shielded shed?
