All of that 'professional' input over extending a DSL circuit a few feet from the NID? I'm coming up empty on this one as well.

I am working hard in my basement lab to prototype CAT10XL! Designed to alleviate all these problems plus several new imaginary ones!

Hehe, there was some good advice on there but this pretty much sums up the mental capacity of the OP.

OP "I haven't tested at the NID as i'd rather not stand outside in 30 degree weather."

Someone Reply "Lame excuse. Run a CAT5 wire around the side of the house and in through a window. Sheesh."

Hehe. Id rather not rule out something internal and would much rather spend a whole lot of time goofing around because its cold outside. Boo Hoo.

Problem Solved!

Problem #1. Windstream
Problem #2. Customer trying to do his own work
Problem #3. Advice from people even more stupid than the original poster
Problem #4. Suggesting shielded cable for ethernet.

Solution: Call a real Telecommunications professional.

I was almost tempted to sign up and sugest geting some 1/2" flex conduit.
Unwrap it all, and twist it around the cable.
Then solder it all back together.
Of course you would want to ground it, so take a #6 ground wire (Green with yellow markings...the yellow tells the electricity that it is for noise cancellation)and solder that onto the flex and run it perpindicular to the DSL line out to a new grounding rod at least 50 feet away from the NIU and away from the house.

Absolutey my most favoritest line from that whole post : :and I was told by a network administrator friend of mine "

Out of all the answers the OP got only 1 made any sense. It was explained that the DSL had already traveled a great distance close to power transmission lines and that a short run next to home power wiring would not effect it.

I wanted to join that forum to sugjest that GOLD connectors would help

Too cold?
I wish my manager would go for that. -8C (17.6F) yesterday while I was doing work on a VDSL install and its only December

Anyways - Steps to troubleshoot & solve.

1)Test@nid
2)Disconnect all phones, leave filters plugged into jacks.
3)Disconnect all ISW excluding jack in room w/ modem.

if solved
@ 1) call ISP
@ 2) replace CPE
@ 3) install PTSP, keep dead runs disconnected

if not solved, run new cable.
