Hello my fellow ESI friends-
I am having a disagreement with the CO company- they are saying that the ESI controls the outgoing NAME, and number- I know I can manipulate the Number going out- but I couldn't find anything anywere to send out the name. Am I offbase- I thought there was a database housed at CO that controls the name that goes out-
Thanks

You can't. You are correct and the service provider is wrong.

thanks- that is what I was thinking- but before I blow them up on it- I wanted to verify- isn't there an official name of the table- or tuple or database they store those in?
Thanks for the prompt reply- I appreciate it

Yes, there is a national database where number to name translation is performed. All service providers have access to it. I believe that it is administered by These people.

A PRI from most american providers will not liet you send out a name in the Cal Setup. However a couple Canadian customers have the option available to them.
ESI systems wouldn't provide the option, because it's carrier-specific. If you have a carrier saying that you can, then you're pretty lucky. Most can't, and many times the far-end carriers just dip the database based on the number anyway.

Here in Vancouver,(with Allstream anyways) NI-1 protocol lets you send the outgoing name but NI-2 won't. However NI-1 won't support incoming name. :bang:

Just installed a CS50 for an accountant. He ask if we could se the system to show his main number on all outgoing lines. I told him no. So we call the telco Embarq with a Q and they told him no problem, they would program the MBTN to show on all outgoing calls on all lines. He was very happy to hear this. I called him today and asked how it was working, he said he really hasn't checked it. It has been 2 weeks since Embarq with a Q was supposed to have done this. I told him to call me from the 3rd line. Guess what it showed the 3rd lin number in our caller ID. He immediately got on the phone with you know who and this person said they can't do it. He called me back and told me this and asked if there was anything I could do. I told him I could sell him a T-1/PRI and this way we can set the translation tables to show only the MBTN. WE do this with a lot of PRI customers and it works fine. The only problem is it would cost him around $500 a month for this and being a bean counter with 5 CO's he realized his wish would not come true. Sorry to rant but our teleco Embarq with a Q is the only game in our county and they do as they please. I always say great place to start a telephone company....... Cosmo

We do this a lot for our medical clinics. You can't have patient calling in on the 3rd line and missing the main line's forwarding to the doctor's answering service. In the ATT and Verizon land, we can order terminals in a hunt group. It's basically 5 (or however many you need) 2-way talk-paths all using the same BTN. Works great for us and they are actually a little bit cheaper than regualr lines. See if Embarq with a Q offers them.

@cosmo57
That's weird, We have Embarq with a Q.
We have 3 lines and they let us have the main number show up on al lines. I check after reading this post and it works.
I am up In Tallahassee. (Don't see that it would mater.)
We are very happy with Embarq with a Q.
