Looks like a Western Electric 3B speakerphone set to me.

I think the ITT equivalent was the Orator. These units converted 1A2 and similar phones into speaker phones. Their spade lugs were wired into the phone set's network. Pretty cool, huh?

I've seen the big speakers but never the unit up front...

Up front thing is the control and microphone. The 4A had a little sleeker unit on a stalk with a rocker switch and VC and mic. And some of the 1A2 I/C's had a 45 ohm speaker in a box with H/F talkback. No control unit on those, what you heard was what was there!

Dave -
The Orator was the ITT version of the WE Spokesman - it was an amplified speaker only - no microphone. But as Ed said, it's a 3B Speakerphone. After the 4A came out the 3B pretty much disappeared. (They required a very large control box that took up a lot of real estate).
I really don't remember if the quality of the 4A was better then the 3B. I always felt that the AE 88 was the best speakerphone around (it was full duplex) followed by the NT Logic.
As I recall ITTs only speakerphone was the one built into the 10 button 1A2 set (Not bad quality, but not up to the 88).
