I have the correct software template to work with. I have connected to other CTX systems with this software with no problem. I recieved a call that only ext 201 was ringing for new calls. The system time and date are good. All system programming appears to be in tack.(per the buttons and usage) If I try to connect and enter my password it trys but never gets there. If I try again, I never have the opportunity to enter the password but it goes on as if I did. Still won't log in. I reinstall the software from a cd to the laptop and I can try my password again, but only once. I have checked the port usage assignment, tried different baud rates , reset the system but did not reset the programming. (affraid it might not come back)
Any thoughts?

Which version of firmware is on the CTX?
Which version of sofware are you using to connect?

Only X201 ringing is a default setting.

By reset, I assume you are referring to "Power Down...wait a minute and Power Up" and not a firmware reset(pulling the EPROMS)?

It is a s5f05 software and I am trying to connect with s5f05. I tried different baud rates and Yes, the reset was just as you mentioned, a power cycle. I realize ringing to ext 201 is default but the button settings are correct, showing particular extensions and access to system speed dial numbers. All other programming seems to be in place. Time and date are good. I can access the admin programming at any phone and make thos changes if necessary but that is it.

Just checking...Looking throught the PIB's I have and finding nothing and from what's in my memory banks, and becaus you know you computer and cables are working properly then I think the solution is:

If you have a current database, I recommend a cold start.

If you don't have a current database, then gather the information you can before the cold start.

(You probably know a cold start defaults the system.)

I always hated it when Brian, Lenna, Joey and the group at SPG/TS would say: Cold Start.

Yeah, I dealt mostly with Joey. They were quick to go the the 'cold start' option. I am just afraid that a cold start my result in a totaly dead system. Not a defaulted system. Oh well, cross my fingers and hit flip the switch to reset, then cycle the power.Cross those fingers!

Check the voltage on the prom carriers if it is to low you will just lose your programming again when the power goes out.

Through admin programming check to be sure what baud rate you should be using. Try that baud rate.

Make sure your using the right COM port.

I don't think you can check the baud rate through Admin, however you can change RS-232 usage from RMP to ICLID.

Good call on port usage. Mike in NJ has stated it works on other systems, so I deduced he knew to check that, however...

It's been awhile since I've checked but I thought threw admin on a phone you could check the baud rate of the RMP port. Because I remember in the past not being able to connect with my laptop and then going through the phone to make sure the baud rate I had in the software matched the KSU. Like I said it's been awhile.

I wish you could check the software version through Admin..."

Pardon me while I power-down your LTX cabinet and remove CCB so I can read the EPROMS to see which version you have."

That always went down well.
