Iowa Telecom is a clec in our city, and an ilec in our region. Anyone have and dealings with Windstream? Is this a "good witch" or a "bad witch" Dorothy?

Windstream is just the new name for Alltel. They are a LEC that has been around in many parts of the country for decades. They are reputable.

Around the same time that Alltel Wireless sold out their properties to Verizon, they changed the name of their wireline business to Windstream.

In the days of independent telcos, Alltel was running in the #4 position with regard to size behind GTE, United and Centel, though they jockeyed positions with CenturyTel for #5 since they are (were) similar in size.

That got to be some pretty heated jockeying too... Hostile take over threats and all... I'm guess they didn't like getting passed by up by a long-shot by CenturyLink (Embarq / CenturyTel.)
