We've got a requirement to support a branch office with LD over a cisco gateway device. The idea is to connect a gateway to the existing pbx on the remote site, connect over analog ports, send it across IP to the main office, then shoot it out for U.S. LD rates.

Being new to Call Manager and the Cisco gateway devices, I would like to know if anyone had an idea of how this could be accomplished...

Not to sound harsh, but you seem like you could really use someone that knows more about voice and that side of the coin and how to actually implement this. Either you are making it sound way more simple than it is, or you think it is way more simple than it is...either one is a recipe for QOS issues and poor service. My advice: hire or work with someone that can help you on site and get this working correctly the first time and learen from them how to do it right.

You've hit it right on the head. Somehow we've got someone who sees an article and instead of paying of the company to help out and do it with us, he'd rather try in house...

Ahh, I see. Well, that does leave it in their court then. The best advice that I can give you in that case is to make sure you have enough band with. Get what you think will be enough and then double it.....or at least make it absolutly clear that the quality will be about cell phone quality at best. Anything going purly over IP is going to have service issues, that is a guarantee, not a possibility. If your boss can get that point then things can be worked out and you will be off the hook for the most part. If it is a few calls here and there you will be OK fo the most part, but if there is any call volume expect problems, again, just make them aware of this.

I hate to paint a doom and gloom picture, but without the experience or knowhow there will be issues. Study a lot about your project, study util you you could do it in your sleep. Test it before you go online so to speak, if you can.

Good luck! smile

Steve
