I've got an NEC DSX system randomly rebooting and I can find the problem. The out of state repair tech had us buy a new mother board and the system is still rebooting.
I've also rebuilt the data base and initiated the whole system. Everything I know I've learned while working with the install tech and from some minor training. So basically I know just enough to get me in trouble.
I'm looking for some suggestions and some real support from someone who knows how to trouble shoot these systems.

Out of state repair tech??? How about contacting a QUALIFIED local vendor or tech???
Is AC good, is it grounded properly, is it installed properly etc.

Just ran into the same problem recently where the system would re-boot on it's own almost daily. Replaced the Processor about 3 weeks ago per tech support, it hasn't re-booted since.

A DSX on a network, unprotected, can also show these symptoms. I believe that's where ttech was going...

Yeah, the system is on the network with VOIP. We have have three locations the VOIP serves. Two through one VPN on network 10.0.8.80, and 81, one through another 10.0.9.80, and five through a p2p 10.0.0.181 thru 185. It has its own static IP on our main network 10.0.0.80, and it is not shared with any other device.
The out of state installer was a decision out of my control, and no one in the palm springs area services NEC. Its a great system. Its just not as solid as I would like at the moment.
AC is good. For the moment to rule this out, we've moved it to our server battery backup, which conditions the power. Grounding is all on the same circuit. I tested this with a meter for the tech over the phone and found it satisfactory.
We've replaced the processor, and added an air conditioner to the room to keep the temps down, as these were two concerns we've had with the system.
Just a quick port list. three power supplies, System Version 3.41 1 - 16 ESIU v2.1 2 - 16 ESIU v2.1 3 - 16 SLIU v1.2 4 - 8 SLIU v1.2 5 - Unused 6 - 16 COIU v1.2 (uses max 4 lines) 7 - 16 COIU v1.2 (not used since migration to PRI) 8 - T1/PRI v4.7
The system is behind a firewall and the admin access is not on the standard port...far from it.

The problem with that is it will disconnect or maintenance department. And since this is an issue that is intermittent it could be a few days or weeks before we know this fixed the issue, and I suspect they wouldn't like that.

I'm thinking of running the phone through an open router port. This way I can grab some traffic info, much like wire shark. The disconnect idea, even though its a perfectly reasonable step to help eliminate the network as a problem, is not an option at the time as it disconnects two important locations. The last two random reboots havn't been so random. Both were around 11:30am today and yesterday. Could this mean anything? I thought perhaps a schedule but nothing falls at this time? The last outage before these two was 2:27pm last Thursday.

Does anyone know a local NEC certified tech we can bring in or perhaps we can get a certified tech to remote in?
