Have a Vodavi Starplus STS system. It seems to default to CO Line 2. If you make a call it always go out CO Line 2. Then when someone else tries to make a call they can't get out, as CO Line 2 is busy. I know CO Line works, you can push the button on a desktop phone and dial out.

Are the CO lines in different trunk groups? What happens when you press '9' instead of selecting a line?

If you press 9 you always get CO Line2. Only way to get CO Line 1 is to pick it on the desktop phone.

Line 1 is not in the same co group as line 2 seems like the obvious first place to look. This is an admin function to change. It is in flash 40 co line programming. You may need a tech to take care of this for you either in person or over the phone, service charge may apply.

System has been in place for several years, problem just started last week. No one has been in messing with the programming. How could that happen?

I know that this is a bit of a stretch, but try dialing 691 + 00 from one of the phones to see if this goes away. If it does, repeat this at all of the other phones.

Ed, I would think this could be the problem except it happens after dialing 9, not after picking up the handset or pressing speaker button. I don't think auto line select (or hot line as it is now called) could be turned on accidentally and still use the 9 button. The code to grab line 2 would have to be 6911388002 would it not? I think this is a stretch as well.

Me..I'd dial 9 and get line 2 on 1 phone. From a second phone I'd dial 9 again and see what happens. Busy? Get line 1? Get dead air?

I have done that you get dead air. The only way I can get to CO line 1 is to pick it from a desk phone.

Sounds like it is looking for a trunk that is no longer in that group like line 3 or 4.

It is not going to hurt to try 691-00, I just think it will not fix the issue....also when you dial 9 when line 2 is busy, you said you get dead air, the phone display should have something on it, like a line number or something. How many line keys on the phones? If only line 1 and line 2 than do you have any loop buttons? Loops always look for the last line which could be more than 2 even if you only have 2 line keys available. Still something doesn't make sense to me..if you had more than 2 lines if you dial 9 when the system is idle, it would pick the last one first and give you dead air then, not give you line 2 then dead air only when 2 is busy..

Only 2 line keys on the desktops. Not sure about loop keys. Would have to check in the am.

Did the 691-00. No change as expected. When you dial 9 on 1 you get access to Co line 2. Then dial 9 from another phone and get dead air but the loop button does light up. Now what??

What does the display say when the loop key lights up? I suspect the system is grabbing line 4 and since there is no key for 4 the loop button lights. You might try deleting the loop key on a phone and there may be more than one, by hitting speed twice the loop button and then the flash key.

The display shows station 101 line 002. Did the delete steps and no change. The desk phones have co line 3 and 4 buttons, FYI.

The display says line 2 when using 2, but what does it say when you have dead air? By the way, you said in an earlier post you only have one trunk. I assume you meant to say you have two trunks, line 1 and 2.

Obviously line 1 is no longer in line group 1. Why? I'd put my money on data corruption caused by a brief AC outage and a bad memory support battery. You need more than programming to restore your system to proper service.

Yep, have to agree with Dave.

It shows line 2 when it's dead air. Yes, 2 trunks, line 1 and 2.

Have it hooked to a UPS. Never had a power outage of more than the UPS can last.

You certainly have a corrupted data base. It shows line 2 when dialing 9 but it is supposed to grab line 1. If you have not done so already you might try resetting the system. There is a reset button top left inside the unit. If that doesn't work try a cold start by powering off the system wait about a minute and power it back on. There is a risk to powering it down. If the memory battery is old and worn out you could loose programming. I usually test older systems by putting a meter on the battery and seeing if I get 3 volts dc.

Post on here and see. Just general location is enough, no need for detailed info.

I don't know what importance you put on your phone's, but it's been not working for a long time since you first posted. I'd think the service call would be worth the money. Could be someone could fix you up over the phone for a fee.

Doesn't matter. Most of them are cheap standby models. Because you appear to have corrupted data, you almost certainly don't have a true sine wave on-line UPS or even a line interactive one. If you obtain remote reprogramming support from someone here without replacing the memory support battery, you will need to purchase a better UPS before proceeding.
