Having a heck of a time with a new DSX-40 install
( 1 ) I do not have a ground connection on the CPU at all.. So if this is the cause of all my trouble - shoot me smile I cannot find a ground in the installation location

( 2 ) I cannot USB or Ethernet into the CPU... When I tried doing USB it timed out.. Over Ethernet it wasn't present.. Not sure if the DSX-40 has a default IP after init.

( 3 ) My matching handsets have no display (blank) no power.

The blue led is winking every so often.

I'm contemplating pushing the latest 3.x version on a CF card as I do not know what version of software is on the machine.

I have also tried both versions of the NEC Sys Admin v2 and v3 - with no luck.

Robert, forget about the ground for now.

Try plugging (carefully ) a telephone in the KSU direct.
You should get a live phone by using this set up.

Do you have your system hooked up proper.?

Have you ever Installed a DSX ?

I've never installed a DSX before... Most of my experience is in VoIP and carrier switching.. Not key system.

The station ports on the KSU are RJ45 - the phones are RJ11 - so I'm not sure how I'd plug directly into the KSU

I did not connect the CO lines yet.. I just wanted to make sure I could get a station to light up.. But when I discovered that I could not USB or Ethernet into the CPU - I was concerned.

I'm running on a VM (virtual machine) but still shouldnt be an issue

The station ports are configured as RJ61 out of the KSU. Do you know the difference? If not Google it and read. Use your quick set up Installation sheet.

I'm gone.

Correct - I had to run my own wiring.. I wired everything as RJ61.. That still doesn't explain why I can't get USB or Ethernet into the box..

Thank you

The blue light shougld be a heartbeat not once in a while.

Un plug all your cables ,reboot the system ,connect your laptop
via usb and see if you can get in.

Whats the back story on this box ,new, used ,ebay ,craigs list .

There is a preconnectorized prewired block with 6 plugs to go into control unit and your stations cables connect to the
block
, very simple and painless.

wired everything as 61x ? did you wire your station jacks that way ?

don't worry about the admin software for the moment . I would pull the button cell battery then power back up and wait until you get a steady flash on the blue light .

have you read any of the docs for the system , followed the quick start guide ?

Go to NECDSX.com and get the Quick Start Guide and the manuals.
The Ground is on the front of the unit just below and to the right of the plugs. Get the pre made block and save your self some grief. This about the simplest system on the Planet but look at the Quick Start Guide, it has a disclaimer on the bottom
it says, Do not install unit until you read the Manuals.

You wired your jacks RJ61??? Your kidding, yes???

Plug in to KSU? You take phone cord, insert onto sta 1-4, you should get station 1 x300 or 301 depending on SW ver.

If phone does not come up do as Skip indicated and remove front cover and pull button battery out, wait a few min and start without battery, see if that works. If it does put batt back in, log on and upgrade to latest sw before any thing else.

Be careful plugging a phone directly into the KSU you may bend pins 1 and 8 making port 4 useless.

Use a patch cord with a coupler at the end and plug into the coupler. If you don't have a coupler make one out of 2 jacks.

Issue resolved.. For the record...
Kit (ksu plus phones) was purchased from A...zon.... As NEW..

Kit did not include any wires or blocks.. So I had to make my own cables for CO lines and Stations..

My wiring on the RJ61X for KSU to block was bad.. My ignorance.. Was working with CAT6 and my fingers / eyes are not as good as I thought.

I have not gone back to try and run Sys Admin tool - going to drag an older laptop with me to re-test..

But system is online with CO line functioning.. Carried out programming from station..

Thanks all!!
