Hello,
Our interface for the voicemail has been down for quite sometime. We have called our vendor to the property and they have been with the PMS tech support, but we are unable to get it fixed. I was wondering if anyone here had any tips or tricks. We have an old SX-200 phone system and Mitel Express Messenger Voicemail. The interface is just displaying gibberish and has code 28 error. The baud rate is set to 1200, N, 8, 1. There doesn't seem to be any red lights on the express messenger there is just a green status light. A DB9 connector converts to RJ45 runs upstairs and coverts into DB25 and then there is a null modem cable. The null modem cable converts back to RJ45 and then back to DB25 into the octopus cable into the PMS server. Any help is highly appreciated as we have been trying to get this fixed forever and the pms support guys just seem useless. Could someone confirm if I have the correct baud rate? Also, I wanted to mention that I can leave voicemails on any of my administration extensions and i can leave voicemails only on some rooms but the guest doesn't even have to be checked-in. This is why I don't think something is wrong with the express messenger. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like the Voice Mail is working. The guests are already checked in, and the PMS has not checked them out, that's why they are working. PMS people can be awfully stubborn in their attempt to place blame on the PBX vendor, it never seems to be their (PMS) fault, but it usually is. See if they can re-set the voice mail port on their side, or move to a different port on the interface (octopus cable). Good luck.

Common problem. You need to do a little investigation first to solve the problem. When the system was working properly, what event happened that caused the problem you are experiencing? I just had one of our clients upgrade their Opera PMS from Win XP to Win 7. The VM stopped working. It turned out, after much debate and heated exchanges that the driver for their PMS to voice mail integration did not work with Win 7.
It's obvious, to me, that the PMS is not properly communicating with the Mitel to check in and out rooms. That is why some work and some don't but all the admin phones and VM do work. The admin phones do not check in or out, but all the room phones do.

Express Messenger interface uses E71 for both options and either 1200 for Hyatt or 2400 for HIS protocol.

What is the difference between Hyatt and HIS? How do I know which one I have?

It is the way the messages are formatted back a forth between the systems. Your PMS support should know which you are using or which one they prefer.
