The biggest issue with using a Gmail or other online email account is that it is going to store a copy of every sent message. Some companies may not care, but some may. Exchange relay is fairly easy if your IT guy (or you) knows how to setup the transport hub in Exchange. it's not that hard really. Google is your friend when the IT guy is not.
