Hi All,

Great forum with tons of info. I am a total newbie to punching down phone jacks and am in need of some help. Our office has a jack that is no longer used but is still connected to the 66 block. I can cross connect it so it can be used with a 550-4500 phone but I cannot figure out how to cross connect it to a Single Line circuit. I want to install a Polycomm phone on the single line but after cross connecting the phone has no dial tone. Do I need to change how its punched down on the jack? Thanks in advance!!

You need to have a single line card in your system. The way to see if you have one is to take the cover off the KSU and look for a card that will either say SLC or SLC 16. If you do not have a single line card, the easiest thing to do is buy an SLA which connects to one digital keyset port and gives you two single line ports. Otherwise you need to have a free card slot and will have to buy an SLC.
Hope this helps.
Jeff

Hi, thanks for the reply. We do have a single line card installed. In fact, our CFO's polycomm is connected to that same card.

I would double check all the connections. Have you toned everything out and made sure you are cross connecting to the right place? Take a jack and punch it down to the block coming out of the KSU, and plug a regular phone into it and see if you have DT.
You also might need to check that you have an extension set up for that port in your DB. Also, make sure that you are wiring to the white/blue pair. The digital phones are wired to the outside pins so check the jack.

Thanks for the replies. If Inter-tel digital phones are wired to the outside, what color would these be on the jack? Also, what pins would analog lines be using? Sorry for the newbie questions.

analog lines are useing pins 4&5 digital is pins 3&6 depending on how your jacks are wired this should be white/blue for analog and either white/ orange if 568A or white/green if 568B
