Trying to come up with a tool for testing. I'd like to be able to plug a line cord into my inter-tel phone (550.4500) and punch down the wires from the line cord onto the 110 block. Anyone out there know which wires to punch down onto which block pair?? Or am I just nuts? I don't do any wiring (obviously), but need a down and dirty way to test phones on a cabinet that is powered but not connected to anything.
I suppose I could wire a biscuit jack to the block and plug the phone into it - but still, I'm unsure of which wires to use.

Siemon and ICC make field-termination plugs that fit onto 110 blocks. Granted, they are four-pair, but most systems today use only the white/blue pair. If you get one of these and a solid-wire patch cord, you should be able to make up a test cord easily. Mike Sandman ( www.sandman.com ) sells this stuff in small quantities.

All you need to do is cut the end off a line cord, strip the jacket off, and punch down the yellow and black wires for whatever pair you are trying to connect your digital phone to. Ed's way might work but remember the Inter-Tel phones use the outer 2 pins on an RJ14 jack.

Why not just make a test cord by cutting off one end and attaching the bare wires to small alligator clips? As Jeff said, the Axxess phones use the orange (outer) pair.

But punching down 28 gauge stranded wire on a 110 block? I am not so sure about that but I'll take your word for it.

28 gauge stranded on a 110 termination will give you a "high high time ".
Like drinking a 5th before the 4th. A high time. :nono: (poor conductor)

I'm not sure he could use alligator clips on a 110 block though. What I would do is take a piece of solid cat 3 cable, crimp a modular plug on the end, and then punch that down on the block for testing. That way you would not need to worry about punching down stranded wire. I've got tons of wire and plugs here, I can make you up a couple cables if you don't have the tools...PM me if you want.
