We just swapped out an old Toshiba DK with an NEC SL2100. Paging and other things stopped working on the DK. Reconnected the Valcom to the NEC but can't get ring over page to work. External paging from a phoneset works fine. Sent database to NEC and they got ROP to work in their lab.

I did notice I had to unplug and plug in the power supply to get external page to work.

Could the power supply be bad? Thanks all.

How do you have the paging system connected to the NEC? If through the page port, you can set the NEC to do ring over external page on a per trunk basis. If you have the Valcom connected through a trunk port you will need an adapter from Valcom. As far as the power supply goes, it could be a bad PS or it could have too much of a load on it. We really need more info on all the parts you are using and how it is connected before we can help further.

Thanks. It's connected the same as it was on the DK system. the page port on the NEC is connected to the power supply. Running 3 speakers. Again, external paging through the phonesets works fine. Any other info I can get you let me know.

If it is connected to the page port on the NEC then all you need to do it program the NEC to do Ring Over Page. This is a feature of the NEC so you may want to post over in the NEC as all the Valcom is doing is accepting the audio from the NEC.

I'm confused. A VP-624 is a 600mA 24 volt power supply. It's the power source for Valcom external speakers. The AUDIO portion (red green on your color chart) is connected to the page jack (pins 1 and 8) on the RL/Audio jack. If those 3 speakers are V-1030 style trumpets, you'll need more power. A 624 supplies 12 power units and the 1030's use 5 each.

Now, back to the ROP feature. is 31-05-01 set to 1?

I have seen where people have hooked the page port directly to the speakers. If you have a small number of speakers and the page port has enough umph. you can get away with doing it that way. Be aware that Valcom speakers are 4 conductor speakers. 1 pair for power (hooked to the vp-624) and 1 pair for audio. If you don't have enough umph out of the page port on the phone system you will need to use something like a v-2001a or v-1094a.

As I mentioned in my original post the Dbase was sent to NEC and they tested ROP on their system and it worked fine. Programming was correct. I'm leaning toward the power supply. Thanks all.

One idea that might set you in the right direction would be to connect your test set to the paging port. Make a test page and make sure you hear audio. Then call in and make sure the ROP audio is played on the test set. This will then determine that the trouble lies within the paging. If it looks like it is within the paging, I would then connect each speaker one at a time and test to eliminate any wiring faults or bad speakers. Lastly, as mentioned, make sure the power supply you are using adequately supports 3 speakers.

I agree. The FIRST thing you need to do is connect your butt set and see what comes out of the page port!

I see a remote possibility that the power supply may be at fault if the ring is really loud and it pulls down the power supply voltage. Paging isn't that loud or continuous. So if you have ROP correctly on the page port I would look at the power supply and make sure it's correct for the number and speakers in use. Easy test is to put your volt meter across the power supply output and watch the voltage as you page and ROP. Should be a steady 24VDC. It might just be old too.
