Do you all think that VOIP will give TRADITIONAL VOICE a run for the money and sooner or later overtake it???

Will the telco's start to looze their $$$$ from their copper based voice lines because of the increase of VOIP???

Do you see fiber coming into every residence and place of business in the near future???

So what is gonna happen to all that copper sitting up there on them poles???

I dont think fiber to the desk is going to take off any time soon but I do think voip is going to replace copper faster than we want it to. as for the old copper until someone complains enough it will stay were it is (its a good back up)

is the bar opened yet??

Fiber to the house I doubt will ever happen. WiFi I believe is the route manufactures will go. Less expensive, and can cover a great amount of people in much less time than running fiber to the house. There really is no need for fiber to the house. Most companies don't even need fiber.

Just a little input, Verizon is wiring the Queens NY Area with Fiber to the house BIG TIME. There are so many Verizon line and splicers trucks in this area you'ld think they are having a union meeting.

Yup, Verizon has been here and done that, they started here last summer. Looks like they hooked up the first customer in the neighborhood yesterday. 12x18 inch box on the side of the house! They are only offering two levels if internet service at this time but they plan to add TV in the future. I see no reason that they couldn't eliminate the copper and provide as many voice lines as a customer would need.

Here in very back woods Paintsville KY we are on a mom & pop cooperative called Foothills Telephone. They are running fiber to every household. The box or multiplexer on the home is made by Alcatel. They offer dial tone, enternet, and TV. They can push the enternet out as far as they want. We are surrounded by Bellsouth area but there DSL is still 18,000ft from the CO. I don't have any services from foothills because they look at us as competion. We use cell going through a cell socket hooked to a partner ACS and Dish network for TV.

Verizon is also going CRAZY with fiber to the home construction in Northern Virginia, even to crappy townhouse neighborhoods. From what I can see in driving around, the entire serving area of the Springfield CO is completely covered with FTTH.

They are using Alcatel NIDS and even have aerial teriminals providing traditional drop wire service to the home, just like with copper.

Like it or not, FTTH has definitely arrived in the DC area and the Verizon splicers are like mosquitos around here; many times three or four trucks at a single splice.

IMO, they are rapidly trying to win back some of the business they have lost to cable. Cox is the cable carrier in Fairfax County, VA (where Springfield is) and they are very aggressively selling their services to businesses in our area (voice, data, video and long distance).

Verizon sat back and laughed at the cable operators in the '90's as they built their networks. Now that they see these networks actually costing them money, Verizon has decided for the first time in years to actually give the customers something that actually works.

Personally, I think that cable has won the battle and Verizon waited too long to answer their customer's needs.

How come there's always enough time to go back and fix it a second time?
