hello all. i have a customer with a partner ll. i dont know the processor but he does have inskin vm so it must be atleast 3.1. they have trouble with hearing a fax like sound before they are connected on a outside call or an icm call. they say it seems to happen on all sets and all lines. the fax is outside the system. im stumped. any ideas. thanks dave

That is a weird one, have you done a System Reset #728 ?

Does the fax share any spare co and sation pairs? Sounds like fax cross talk. Try faxing from the demark. Try to Isolate the fax line form other pairs.

have you unplugged all the sets from the cu plugged in a set directly to 1 ksu port and see if trouble is still there if not start plugging them in 1 at a time or maybe unplug the station that shares the fax first and test any new costruction or new wires /mice ?? any electronics /microwaves etc near ksu electric heaters //new radio sta near by doctors or chiropracters move in or add machines in bldg are u close to the airport ?

no i havnt tried reset but i will. the fax is a direct run to telco. and i will try plugging the phones in one at a time at the ksu maybe it is picking something up on the way. thanks you for all your help. dave

DAVE, If they are getting something that sounds like a fax tone on in coming calls that lasts only a few seconds then that is the caller id being sent from the Telco.

That doesn't explain the same tone on the intercom calls.

Have you verified that this is actually happening on itcm calls or is this just what the customer says? I'm betting it is telco crosstalk and the customer is just assuming it is happening on all calls, inside and out.

they are about 40 minutes away and i havnt actually verified if it does in on icm calls. that is the story they tell me. i will go out there monday but all the extra imput will be helpful as i start to troubleshoot. hope it is a slow telephone traffic day for them. thanks for all the ideas. dave

I have the same problem with incoming calls. My customers it sounds like a fax answering..doesn't happen on all calls but it very frequent. What is a reset #728?
