Oh, im sorry, I wasnt very clear, a MFM is a module that plugs into the phone, that gives the phone the ability to host an analog device on it like a answering machine or fax machine. The the data port on mlx 10DP phones is not for analog connections, however once you add a Multi function Module (MFM) you'll be able to plug in any standard device. So, i n short, you'll need to buy another device. However, personally, I recommend just buying an analog card for the legend carrier. I got mine for $1 on ebay. Its way more reliable and easier to configure.

I will look for one. By the way, I am interested in why you switched back to Key from PBX. What was the hassle or disadvantages?

The reason I switched back to key was because in PBX you usually group the lines into pools which wasn't a very practical setup for a home environment. In key, for instance, each line has its own button, in PBX, all the lines are under a common button. In key mode, you can pick up a line by hitting the respective line button, in pbx mode, you often have to you call park and pickup. Now, of course, for a business with many many lines pbx is very convenient; could you imagine having a button for every line!? That would be a lot of lines. Its really a matter of personal preference and how much time you want to dedicate to intial setup. Basically, the PBX setup is slightly more complex and, for the most part, the feature benefits arent all that good. It really depends on how many phones your're goin g to be running. But, I'd say that key is much easier and faster to set up

Well, this has been an interesting exchange to watch!
You can run in PBX mode, without putting the lines in pools, and assign them to buttons to operate just like Key mode.
If you want to use a lot of single line phones, but don't want to dial 9 for outside calls on the multiline extensions, run in Key mode.
You don't need DID unless you want each telephone user to also have a number that rings directly at their extension.
If you have 3 voice lines and a Fax line, you can put all 4 lines on each telephone. Make the phones ring on lines 1 through 3, and not on 4. Make the Fax extension ring on 4 and not 1 through 3.
You need a single line card to run a Fax, or an OPTIONAL MFM module in an MLX set.
You don't have to tell the phone company what kind of phone system you have hooked up, and they don't care anymore.
Caller ID only works with loop start lines, and only with release 7 and higher Legend.
An 007 MLM voice mail is fine.

I know that Caller ID only works on loop start, but one thing that I have repeatedly run across in the documentation is if the telco does not provide realiable disconnect on loop start lines, then there exist this huge gapping security flaw in your system that everyone who calls will take advantage of and bla bla bla
How big of a problem is this, and do telcos normally provide realible disconnect or is it hit and miss?
