I don't know if anyone here can help me. And likely its a simple problem or fix. It appears on one of our phones the message light simply doesnt work anymore. When she has voicemails it doesnt turn on at all. Is it something simple like a bulb being out? (we arent even sure if they can go out).

I can't say I'm very knowledgeable with this system at all, I was just hired to this company. But I'm not finding anything in the manuals pertaining to this.

Thanks!

This sounds like it may need a on-site tech to trouble shoot the problem.
I have never seen a message waiting light go bad on a 18-D.
One way to check it would be to switch out the phone in question with a know good one.
You may be better off to call your local Avaya business partner and they can come out and check.

Sounds to me like the voice mail boxes may not be set up right.

To simply test the MW LED at the phone, press Feature-09-and that phone's extension number.

To turn it off, Feature-10-and that phone's extension number.

Used to see a lot of bad MW lights on MLS phones, but not Partner Eurostyle 18-D's

Sounds to me like the voice mail boxes may not be set up right.

That's usually what causes this as well as the MW light not going off. Simply, you are not at the extension you think you are. Phones get moved around all the time and nobody changes the extension number written on it.

To find out what extension you really are press (feature)(0)(0) from your phone. The display will say "Program Extension XX". (Just lift the handset when you are done.)

If you see that your phone is some other extension than what you have been entering the mailbox for you have found your answer.

You are still going to need a tech to straighten it out.

IF you have a partner messaging the mailbox can be set to have a phone or not have a phone. If it is set to "does not have a phone" it might not light the light
I would do the feeature 09 and feature 10 to see if the light actually works or not as TTT stated above.

The problem is that the message light worked fine before. It's not a newly moved phone or even a new extension to that phone. Its been the same for some time and the message light has worked for it.

Recently she changed greetings and reset the voicemail to the phone however even after that the phone message light was still working for a few days. Now its not.

I will try the feature however and see if the light turns on at all.

Thanks for the input.

Alright I tested the message light and it works. However its still not lighting up when she has a voicemail message.

Should she try reseting the voicemail and setting it back up again? The phone isnt recently moved and the message light was working before but it just recently stopped.

Is there a function to just turn off the message light? Maybe she accidently pushed something?

Thanks again.

No, no function to turn the MW light off.

I would try resetting the system. Easiest way to do this is to just pull the plug to the control unit but if the memory backup battery is in bad shape you may lose the programming. Safer way to do a reset is from extension 10 or 11, (feature)(0)(0)(left intercom)(left intercom)(#)(728). Do this when nobody is using the system, the system will go down then back up. Display will say "System Reset-Programming Saved". Simply lift the handset to get back to normal.

If you reset the system will it lose everything? Such as all voicemail greetings? There are a lot of people on the system so doing so wouldnt work well. Can we reset just her voicemail? Or would that likely not work?

Thanks again for bearing with my lack of knowledge wink

No, nothing will be lost. That's what "System Reset-Programming Saved means". It's like rebooting a computer, very often it will solve the problem and is the first thing to try.

Well then all bets are off. I assumed that you had one of the Partner messaging systems. Reset the system as I recommended and the VM will be reset also. That's not going to happen with an external non OEM VM system.

I would go ahead and do the system reset, maybe it is the Partner system. If not you are going to have to look at the VM system.

In that case maybe this should be moved to the Voice Mail Forum where someone familiar with Amanda can make some recommendations.
