I need to get a TN2224. Since my switch is under a service agreement with Avaya, don't I have to buy a circuit pack that is "authorized" by them? In the past this has not been an issue for me. I just bought parts from our reputable Avaya BP. I'm now asked to get parts off of ebay and other secondary market sources. (Maybe ebay would be thirdary market?) I don't want get one via ebay for $500 and find that Avaya will no longer honor our service agreement because the board was "illegal".

whats illegal about buying parts from Ebay.....
True, it is buyer beware...but if you know what your
buying and can test it right away...shouldn't be
a problem.
A "reputable" BP would be looking out for your
best interest and can get you the best price for
any ckt pack in the system.
If Avaya not longer supports the G3 series...why
should you care where the pack comes from as
long as it works.
With Lucent/Avaya..there are no 3rd party CP's
for the Definities, Legends or Partner switches.
As the switch gets older and is no longer supported by Avaya...you'll have to think out of
the box in terms of tech support....!!!!

Because Avaya doesn't want you to buy gray market or from an unauthorized source. If you own the system and maintain it out of your own pocket you use unauthorized parts at you own risk. If the system is leased or under a maintainence agreement with Avaya they are responsible for it so installing parts from an unauthorized and questionable source can void the agreement.

Be very careful buying parts from an unauthorized source if you have an Avaya maintenance agreement. If that part causes your system to fail, Avaya will not cover it.

TN2224's are cheap. Get them from a BP. Your job is at stake if you mess things up!!!

Like Hal said. It's not illegal. But it affects my service agreement.

Still covered, but they are ready to pull out soon. My current agreement is up in July of 07.

why do you think the "grey" market exist. This
and other forums like it...are technically "grey". They are a 3rd party support
team and am glad to have it.
We as independent vendors have to rely on this source to get quick and reliable answers to the problems we encounter.
where would we go if forums like this didn't
exist...then yes, I would get out this business.

Why don't you consider becoming an authorized dealer for one or two manufacturers? In an effort to stem gray market manufacturers like Avaya have made it easier to become dealers. You were a Lucent tech, should be a no-brainer.

It should be something you are aiming for. I know I started out that way but it always bothered me that I was illegitimate, selling product that I wondered where it came from. I also didn't have access to the full product line. Sometimes I wanted to sell the customer something I couldn't get.

Richard,

I sent you a PM with my BP information. He's been straight with me and he's been good to do business with. He's written my maintenance, supplied my hardware and will be doing an Audix upgrade for me this summer. He'll help you with anything you need. He is with a large Authorized Business Partner. I tell him the only bad thing about him is that he's a Vikings Fan...
