A customer has a Lucent Partner ACS Processor V1.0, basically a CLID capable 3x8 working with a 5 slot carrier. Now, the customer wants to have a Door Phone install at the front door for security reason, he has 1 CO and 1 Station port available.
I understand that Lucent (or under the Avaya brand if I order right now?) and some 3rd party manufacturers have the similar solutions; just don’t know which one I should propose to the customer… Can you guys shed some light?

Ditto, 3rd party.

The Avaya is available, but not popular and expensive. I've only seen one. I've seen lots of the Viking.

You'll use up the last available station port - so what. Sell them another card/module later!

Set up a hunt group and your done. You might have to experiment with what type of hunt group the customer wants.

I'm wondering if you are using the Partner doorphone or the one with the separate controller. Rarely do you need the latter.

All I use are Partner doorphones. Last I looked the price of a Partner doorphone was pretty much the same as the Viking who used to make the Partner doorphone anyway. The original Partner doorphone that used to be made for Lucent by Harris is now available from Valcom. I agree that that one is expensive but it is superior to any of the others.

I worked for AT&T Lucent & Avaya , we installed many of the partner door phones , and got nothing but complaints on how the partner doorphone worked , my choice is viking as you can use either the CO port or a station port, the door phone controllor was very good also but to open you had to dial 6736 (open ) for the door or gate strike

I installed 2 Partner door phones for my church and they seem to work quite well.

Dunno. Don't know if they still do but all Viking products have had a problem with the Partner ring voltage. It's a bit lower than the standard 90 volts and even the Partner doorphone made by them for Avaya wouldn't pick up if you called the extension.

Cvrbob, what exactly were the complaints and were they related to the original (Harris) then Viking and now Bogen Partner doorphones?

I did have to use a Viking door phone awhile back. It was the only thing that would fit the space and the existing hole. I found that you had to crank up the mic gain all the way and still it was not as sensitive as the original Partner doorphone. I kind of remember that this is a problem across the Viking line also.

I can understand using a doorphone that interfaces with a CO port on a system where you have no choice but with Partner the function is built in for up to two doorphones. No extra power supply required either, just one pair.

basically when you push the button for the Harris it alerts up to five phone , if the people do not hear the alert tone, and the calling party doesn't say anything you have dead air ( all ways why can't you make it ring. )In office not too much of problem. but most we installing in houses , if it didn't have full coverage, they wouldn't hear the alert + no door strike
I have never had a problem with the viking

I started off using Viking and then switched to these from Mike Sandman"worlds best doorbox"

Ive had no ring issues with the Sandman one behind a ACS

basically when you push the button for the Harris it alerts up to five phones...

Don't know where this five phone restriction comes from. You can have as many phones as you want as doorphone alert extensions except with the old Partner Plus. Each extension either #1, #2 or both doorphones. Different rings for 1 & 2.

if the people do not hear the alert tone, and the calling party doesn't say anything you have dead air (allways why can't you make it ring?). In office not too much of problem, but mostly we install in houses, if it didn't have full coverage, they wouldn't hear the alert...

How many times does a doorchime ring? Once per button push, right? That is what this is after all. Matter of fact there are auxiliary contacts on the Harris for a regular door chime also.

+ no door strike...

That's what the contact closure adjunct is for and you don't even need a doorphone to use it.
