Me too! Too much confuses them and they don't know what they want.
I make send-calls standard and abbreviated dial buttons standard. The Busy Indicators are only for supervisors. Priority buttons are standard for secretaries.
Some secretaries are in charge of watch some supervisors mailboxes so I may give them a mailbox button instead of having them run in and look at another phone all of the time.

18DE2 top 4 buttons LNR,SNR,VMTRN,VMACC, sometimes substitute SNR w/ PAGE. Then follow with extensions by name ( if there is enough buttons. Bottom row is for lines and second from bottom row as needed. I allways try to enter extensions on buttons in order and include that extensions name allso. The typical response is " why do i need to call my self or see if I'm on the phone, ( gigle ) I then explain if they've ever had some one long winded ( salesman ) on the phone just tell them " what you have to say is important to me so can i put you into my voicemail and you can leave me the info." VMTRN>(YOUR EXTENSION) erase later . If they dont like that i just program there name as a DND button. By doing it this way I can typeset all face mats the same.

Redial, Page All (if applicable), Vm X-fer, VM, Intercom to extensions (if applicable), DND (night on x10), Call Logs, and that's about it.

Typically across the top row I give VMT, VMMsgs, Last #, and Page All (*71 or *71) but I ask first. You ask some customers "would like a button that would allow your voice to come over all the phones" and they look at you like you have 3 heads. Below the top line, like a few others here have suggested, I give auto dial for the other extensions. None of this is automatic though. I ask "would it be helpful for you to know when other people are on the phone?" SNR--> That's about a useless feature IMHO
