Had A customer call today saying that all phones but Ext 10 do not ring , and can't access CO lines all the time, went out and looks like the system lost it's programing. Only X-10 has line appearances , all other EXT's have pool buttons. I know that this sytem needs to be upgraded , which the customer is going to do when they move to a new building in late March. All I really need to do is get rid of the pool buttons and assign line appearances and ringing , can this be done with a BIS-34D ? or do I need a attendant console ? It say's Merlin II , FM3

Steve, You'll need the console to reprog the system. You may also want to install a fairly large battery back-up first since the CPU's on-board battery is likely dead and you'll lose programming again at the next power failure.

Can you do any programing with a BIS-34D ? I found a manual that says you set the system type , size , assign line/line pools , ringing, etc... .With the system set as square will that give me line appearances ? I just need to porgram the basics

"The MERLIN II system display console is the only telephone that can administor MERLIN II System Release 3 features. It is often referred to as the administrator's console."
Merlin II manual, pg.2-11

Unfortunatly, you have to have the console to assign line appr., I think you can prog. ringing thru the individual phones but without the line appearing under a button that will not work.

My stock answer is, UPGRADE to an R7.0 Legend.

Then, let them know now they can have VOICE MAIL as well.

The first time I encountered this, I re-programmed the system, and got every thing working as before.

Then the owner asked "Will we loose the programming again?" My answer was "YES".

His next question was; "How can we prevent this?"

When I explained the benefits of the FLASH Card and the Voice Mail capabilities, he was ready to buy.

They have been one of my best clients ever since.

You will not be doing them any favors keeping them in that MERLIN II, it's feature limited, difficult to program, and now it has proven that it is unreliable as well.

I don't want to argue with rwindom but I strongly belive that you can do programming with 34D as well. I am coming just from memory . I might be wrong.

Doesn't meter how many lines cause there is settings where you can choose this is a Large or Small system. They talking about Small system cause you restricted by number of buttons on the phone vs Console. But if you have few lines and phones but configuration was chosen as a Large you can do Programming from 34D as well. Large system will allow put lines in Pools. The Small one Square only.

I got called in on exactly the problem described above. System went down in a power outage. Only ext 10 has line appearance, etc. They go through this fairly regularly so they know the routine, corporate seems to be dragging their feet about upgrading to partners like almost every one of their other locations.

So I've never programmed a Merlin II before and I'm not making any headway. The customer has the manual buit no overlay. I'm following the manuals as best as I can but so far the only thing I've been able to change is the time and date. I couldn't find a model number on the set but it;s in the 34 button range with a display and they tell me it's the one used previously in this situation. From the manual there is 2 different 34 button phones that can be used for programming but they have slightly different methods which are both listed and which I have tried both but I've seen nothing on the screen that tells me I've done anything, and not having the overlay makes it a very tedious process. There is an overlay but it is not labeled according to what the book says to push (or rather "touch" as they say in the book)

I was able to enter a couple pound codes and see it was set as a large system and I think it was set to "squared" but nothing else I tried seemed to produce any results.

All I need is all lines to appear on all phones but only ring on ext 11 and 15.

I do have a programming overlay, it just doesn't have any buttons labeled for 3 cdrucial keys, sorry I don't remember off hand what they are called. I figured they might be soft keys that would show up on screen but nothing I did put anything on the screen other thanh "button canot be programmed" and a couple other similar messages.
The left side of the overlay has the lettyers of the alphabet (one to a button) and all the buttons have extension numbers and some are labeled with functions, but none of the ones the book is telling me to enter.

Any tips? All I need is all lines appearing on all phones but ringing only on 2, oh yeah, with a delayed ring on 2 others.

I agree with MM..if your not fluent with the Merlin 2...then I suggest that you not waste the
time trying to reprogram it...get your self a
Legend 7.0 processor and program it offsite and
then drop it in...simple...then your move in March will go smooth.
