I just tried the MCI x and it works in Canada. NOt sure this is reporting back the actual phone number or the Caller ID for the line, which can be different.
311 is quick dial to our municiple government offices

Harris, I PM'd you the one we use here in the panhandle for Bellsouth. They changed all their 780 numbers about a year or so ago.

what number do ya'll use to keep a line busy indefinitely? in socal, i used to call the time lady and the traffic number. im in georgia and just wonderin what numbers were over here for that kinda troubleshooting feature

Time lady disconnects after 1 minute here, so I usually call the milliwatt test tone. Only three calls can go into a particular CO at a time, however.
I use it a lot to busy out trunks before powering down a system, grabbing trunks as they go idle, calling the milliwatt, and putting it on exclusive hold.

Yeah the time lady is also a loud recording so I dont use it either (hard to use her for the "low volume" calls).
A good one to use is the weather report, x, gives a continuos weather recording and doesnt hang up as far as I can tell.
