I was looking for a programmer to program an ip office 500 system. One of them told me that i cant have line appearance keys on my eu24 when using a PRI t1.....is this true?

A couple of important points: 1. When using PRI, there is generally no reason to have line appearances since you can't actually use it as if it were an analog trunk. Signaling takes place on D channel. 2. On IPO, all appearance keys must be contiguous, beginning with key #1. 3. IPO limits the total number of appearance keys to a particular amount (I forget the amount - something like 20)

I am not really familiar with the system so please bear with me... does that mean that my client wont be able to see and pickup other phone calls going to other extensions. On their current nortel system, they can see and pickup any of the 22 lines.
Thanks Philip

If you had line appearances, how would you know the intended recipient? We normally automate the process - if you want coverage, have the extension forward on no answer to the receptionist. This way the receptionist doesn't need to spend their life looking at their telephone. Curious - are you the installer? I'd think you'd want to become familiar with the system before trying to make it work for someone else... Mike

its a very small office, no cubicles, everyones desks are connected...it is a trading desk. Each person has two lines that get directed them so everyone knows whos lines are whose. There is no receptionist. If someone is unavaiable to pickup their own incoming line, someone else just picks it up for them. They are close enough that they can hear the other persons phone ringing and pick it up. I am the installer, but a panasonic guy. Was scheduled to go to avaya this week for training but something came up. I got a few quotes for programming because the job cant wait. The problem is i cant ask this client to change the way they have been answering phones with their current nortel system. I dont understand why their older system can do it but not this one.

I have very little experience with the IPO but if you have a PRI, have the carrier port the numbers to the span, ( if they are now POTS) and direct the numbers to the appropriate phones and put call pickup group keys on all the phones. Or like hitech said, if they are DID’s do the same thing.

Each user already has a did. I was told that we can not use the C channel and have a shared call appearance for the a and b channels for all 13 users that way everyone can pickup or join in without parking.....sound right?
