Where can I get ahold of a 1A2 ksu, and cheap (garage sale/eBay cheap)? I've searched google and didn't have a lot of luck. All I found were line cards and sets (I did find one for sale a few months ago, but it was nearly $600). Same thing with eBay. I know nothing about 1A2 systems as they were before my time, but I want to get ahold of one and set it up as a project.

looks like the ITT 601.....
What is your project that requires 1a2???
everything today is digital...why teach old technologie???
Now heres a project.
Get yourself an ITT 512 KSU, Music on hold line cards, a ten button, a six button and a 20 button set w/BLF, mixed ringing, A paging output, Melco handsfree intercom, ( its getting good now) and just for kicks toss in a Northern Telecom Companion Speakerphone on that 10 button!!!
This should tie up all of your free time for a while, and when it's all working you will be A genuine Retro Telecom Genius. Thats if you don't go blind and self flagellate yourself with a 50 pair PVC cable with amps on the end.(:
I don't really NEED this stuff for anything, just for the hell of it. So I got the KSU, no power supply though. Any suggestions?
Nice project for 2004, let me know if you need any help, still have manuals on 1A2, i believe i have the "Bell Specs" on the system you won.
Will do. I downloaded an install manual, so that gives me a start. When I get the system I'll post the cards it came with and prehaps you could tell me what else I'll need. Never touched a 1A2 system before, so this will be interesting.....
Sure its an ITT 601?? The pictures in the 601 manual and the picture of a 601 at ntcp.com don't look like the ksu I purchased. I'm sure you're right, but just wanna double check. The ITT manual also says that the 601 has an internal power supply, but the pic of the ksu I bought seems to have a cable to plug a power supply into it, rather than plugging the KSU directly into a power outlet.
1 VERY IMPORTANT THING TO PAY ATTENTION TOO...
Never do any punching down with power on or you will pop fuses..........
The power supply can be replaced without replacing the whole KSU...
Im curious as to why you are interested in a 1a2.....
If you really want to show what a guy you are get a 584c panel and start there......
It's NOT an ITT 601, it's a Western Electric (but I don't know the model number). You will need a power supply, and you may find one by asking here:
https://groups.yahoo.com/group/singingwires/ Good luck!!
must be the old WE 1a2 housed in the ugly grey metal cabinet. If indeed thats the one....it aint worth it...
I thought so...the eBay listing said Western Electric, and it looked like the other Western Electrics I've seen before. Wish I hadn't bought the ITT manual. Oh well, it was only 15 bucks, maybey I can still use some of the info in it.

keep in mind, stripped wire makes good replacement fuses on a 1A2
I still have a bunch of grasshopper fuses if you need them.
THAT IS A WECO 620 PANEL. IT REQUIRES AN EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY. I THINK THE TWO COMPATIBLE POWER UNITS WERE 79B OR 95B. IF YOU LOOK AROUND IN SOME OLDER CLOSETS, GOVERNMENT OFFICE CLOSETS WOULD PROBABLY BE A GOOD STARTING PLACE,YOU MAY FIND ALL OF THIS EQUIPMENT AS ABANDONDED BELL STUFF.
with that many fuses laying around ..... who needs stripped wire, .... if your just playing .... find a 584 or 597 panel, you'll learn more!
I'll have to wait and see if I need the fuses, the thing hasn't even shipped yet!! And thanks, TTTommy, that yahoo group is great. I found someone that is going to give me the power supply for the cost of shipping. What's better about the 584 and 597?? I just took what I could find at a reasonable (very reasonable, $10.99) cost.
you can get a wide variety of line cards ... ringdown cards .... etc ..... and really have an adventure.
I think I'll start with what I have, maybey get a different KSU later.......On the 620, what will I need to get in the way of a ringing generator (I'd rather not mess with buzzers) and an interrupter? Are they jsut standard cards that fit into a CO slot (therby reducing the CO capacity of the system), sperate units, somehow integrated into the power supply????
The interrupter and ring generator are built into the power supply that you need to make this work. The strange looking molex style connector mates up to the female version on the power supply. I beleive the power supply number is 98B (but hell, I'm old and can't remember it all!!!)First time I worked on one of these, drove me nuts..wiring is not straight forward cutdown as on 584c or the old 501 shoebox KSU. However, if you need the wiring info I should still have the book. Good Luck!!
Actually, I do need the wiring info since I bought the wrong manual and haven't had much luck finding the correct manual.
Your in luck ,if you still want one. I have a "shoebox" 4 line KSU & all the support you can handle, since I usta service them. Let me know

Lemme see how quickly I get frustrated with the 620 and I'll let ya know. Thanks for the offer.
Please to beat yourself over the head with a butset.
