I installed DK16e, all seems ok except phones stay on speaker mode for about 20 seconds when I go off hook. Having trouble finding a timer setting in the manual. Any ideas???
That sounds like a hook switch issue in the phone itself. No timer in the the system that would cause that.
Sounds like "A-Typical" hook-switch, but I am curious when you say "phones" in the plural.

How many is this happening on?
Hookswitch issue...
You can buy hookswitches and solder them in yourself. Page Industries would be one source, you could google Toshiba hookswitch.

Bunnie you pickin' on this user. laugh By the time he buy's the hookswitches pays for shipping takes the phones a part and if he doesn't slip with the soldering iron, it still takes 1/2 to 3/4 of a hour to do. Best bet buy refurb phones Sundance has plenty of them in stock.
We don't do as much as we used to...but before you start soldering away--you have to get your ducks in a row.

1. Get someone that has done electronic circuit board soldering before.
2. Get a well-lit bench or table with a magnifying glass/light, a desoldering tool, a good soldering iron with the right sized tip, and the right kind of solder. There might be some other things that your soldering guy wants to have on hand, also.

We have had that situation in our shop for the last 10 years or so...we invested in a Haako desoldering station. It really makes a difference. When you can desolder correctly, then the items that are soldered back in the holes really make good connections then and the job goes alot faster, too.

However, by the time you do all of that, you're better off if you just purchased good, refurbed phones. Every year, we do less and less soldering.

But, some people like projects and this one is at least fun to do. Won't really make you any money what with the time, aggravation, and money spent---but what the heck. Good luck.
Sorry I stepped on your thingies. If a blond can solder in a hookswitch in five minutes, and both Paige and I can and we are both blond, then it is possible for some other person who wants to.

And I didn't say not to buy refurb phones, I don't discourage anyone from making a choice. If someone wants to make a paperweight out of a phone with a bad hookswitch, that is fine with me, I just give alternatives.

If they burn themselves by holding the wrong end of the soldering iron, I am not responsible.
All the phones are doing this. So I didn't think it to be a hookswitch. For example if I press speaker button then line 1 button I can dial and connect and talk on speaker but when I go off hook the call is still in speaker mode (with no audio thru handset) for about 20 seconds then handset mode kicks in. When I took system in on trade in it was working fine for customer, then system sat on my shelf for about a year before reinstalling. Hope this helps.
There is no programming that would cause this.

There is no power supply problem that would cause this.

How many phones do you have?

You should be able to just press the line one button and have the call go to speakerphone (without pressing the speaker button.)

If you had twenty phones all doing this I would be puzzled. If there are three phones doing this it would almost certainly be hookswitch problems.

Do you have any other sites where you could borrow one Toshiba phone to test with?
Like Bunnie said. In one location with about 30 phones....I have replaced hookswitches on at least 12 phones--probably more.
This is a very well known repair problem with these type of phones.

Get a known, for sure, good phone and plug it in. Either replace the hookswitch yourself, or purchase a refurbed phone---from a company that replaces the hookswitches. Your're spinning your wheels if you don't.

If the good phone works---you'll know exactly what the problem is---if the problem continues--you'll know you have a problem that no one can figure out right now. Go with the percentages.
I brought the remaining sets (5) to the installation, All still the same problem. Hard to believe about 12 sets would have bad hookswitches from being in storage. Again, these phones were working fine when taken out of service. I'm going to order a refurb and try it out. I'll let you know. Thanks.
I just went to my stockpile (phones removed from downsizing a couple of years ago) to replace a problem phone, and it took 4 tries to get one without hookswitch issues even though they were all working OK when put into storage (I had already weeded out the bad ones before storing, and two were ones that I had done a thorough cosmetic cleaning to have them ready to re-assign).
I believe the actual switch inside the phone has a rubber button with conductive ink - is it drying out in storage without being flexed on a regular basis?
jk,

I think they are a carbon contact, but will verify that first.
Well, I still have 6 or 8 new switches on hand, so next time I refurb a phone I'll have to pull the old switch apart, but whether it's ink or carbon, it's still not metal-to-metal like a power switch.

My other point was that, like RM, I was surprised at how many phones that I thought were good have gone bad in storage.
Here is a thought... Make sure Program 35 LED 16 is on for all telephones. If this feature is not on, an intercom call between extensions will be disconnected after 16 seconds if the receiving party doesn't pickup the handset.

OH! When you go off hook on a dial tone button and dial, does it drop after some number of seconds or is this only if you intercom someone?

If you intercom someone whose phone is forwarded to voicemail, and they don't pick up the handset or hit the speaker button while on the intercom call, the call will drop in less than 30 seconds.
Could this be the old handset plugged into the headset (BHEU) Trick.
Here's the final prognosis: returned with a refurb phone and worked fine. I do believe these switches somehow went bad in storage (about 16 months). Thanks everyone for the input.
Well, the devil is making me do this so don't hold me personally responsible.

"We told you so."
