Merlin 410 power supply issue? - 04/19/10 11:53 PM
Hello!
Asking for trouble, i know, but I'm trying to keep a Merlin 410 system going, and have had trouble with the system crashing when the red warning light on the CU comes on. If I unplug something (the feature package II especially) it goes off and the system works again without the features. I assume it's a power supply issue. I have tried disconnecting each extension to see if there is one that is drawing too much power, but no one extension makes the difference.
I see from the manual that if more than 14 devices are connected, it needs an "335A Auxiliary Power Unit (3165)", but we are only up to about 10 (8 phones, 2 102 speaker boxes). Also, the manual says to plug a line form the APU into the Auxiliary Power Jack on the CU, but as far as I can see, ours doesn't have one! I have taken the power supply board out of the 410 to look for anything fried, but there wasn't anything. It seemed to be emitting all the voltages called for. On the bench the problem went away when I gently touched some capacitors, and did not return ... until I reconnected it in service ;(
I saw an old post saying two large resistors on the power supply circuit are the usually culprits, and can be replaced, but I could not find any resistors above the regular size. Please,
(1) do you think it is power supply?
(2) any ideas to trouble-shoot the supply I have?
(3) can I get a refurbished one anywhere? (have looked - can't find)
(4) could I solve the problem by getting an 335A auxiliary power unit?
Many thanks!
