I have an SX200 EL with a T1 that keeps busing out. I have called ATT they say that it is not their issue. I have replaced the T1 card 9109-021-000-SA and I have rebooted the CSU. Any Ideas on anything else it could be.

Was it working before? If you watch the trunks in maintenance, what causes them to busy out?
Posted By: deadwalleye Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/06/10 11:06 AM
Well if I return all the channels to service and they return to idle. As soon as they call out each channel gets busied out.
Posted By: deadwalleye Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/06/10 11:46 AM
you think it could be the CSU. Its A Verilink
Posted By: Lightning horse Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/06/10 01:48 PM
When you return them to service, try making some incoming calls before they all busy out.
Posted By: Lightning horse Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/06/10 03:18 PM
Sure it could be the CSU. But, there are other things to try, as well. As fifty5footer asked, WAS IT WORKING at some point? Or has it been happening for several months? John C.

well about a month ago i reboot it and it was fine until this week and now the channels just busy when atempt to access them

What lights do you get on the T-1 card? What lights at the NIU?
Posted By: deadwalleye Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/06/10 05:54 PM
sync is amber and red alarm on the t1 card and on the csu before i rebooted eq loss and net loss were lit but now just the power is. its a Virlink esf csu.
Posted By: telephoneguy Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/06/10 06:12 PM
Amber=no sync
Red alarm means this end is down (problem is here) -- Yellow means problem at the other end.

To verify, try looping the T-1 pin 1--> 4 and pin 2--> 5.

All lights at the NIU and CSU should clear and go green.

if it goes idle what does that mean and what would be my next step and if no change what would be my next step. i was thinking if the new CSU im having shipped doesnt work im going to move the T1 card to bay 2 from bay 1...good idea?

A loopback adapter is your friend. Idle in maintenance is good.

What JohnP said.

Is your CSU doing some kind of conversion of the T1 circuit? Like from ESF/B8ZS to D4/AMI? If not then plug into the NIU directly to test the circuit.
Posted By: deadwalleye Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/08/10 08:24 AM
ive tried bypassing the csu and connecting directly but when i do that i can never get the channels to return to service.
Posted By: Lightning horse Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/08/10 11:47 AM
The '021' card can only decode SF/B8ZS or AMI. Sounds like the T1 is coming in ESF and being converted to SF in the CSU.

Put a loop back in the network side of the CSU.
If the network stays up, the problem is on your side, also put the loopback into the pbx and see if it stays in sync.
I had similar problems and everybody denied it was on their side. I had a vendor meet and the BOC tech said everything was fine, I asked him to check the programming of the card in the smartjack. Low and behold the smartjack card had the wrong formatting and line coding. Once he reprogrammed it the T-1 came up.

Point being - don't trust what the network side guys say!

I was wondering if I could change the dip switches on the CSU to do the looping. I just had a question if i wanted to loop the network I would flip dip switch 6 on and the pbx loop would be 5 up. Correct?

PBX '5' UP, yes. Not sure about network side, but probably 'up' as well. Anyone with experience on this Verilink product, chime in.

DeadWalleye, I think we have gone as far as we dare here. It's REALLY time to call a qualified Mitel Tech for on-site expertise. The theory of this web site is that we help techs and/or end users to the extent that we tell ya' what to do, but not how to do it. We are supposed to send end users to their user guides and techs to their I & R guides after that.

so my last post was over the line? I understand where you are coming from but I'm new to the group sorry for over stepping. Just trying to learn this stuff IM just an IT guy for a small company that is trying to get into hospitality and employer wont give me funds to get a mitel tech or any training. If I do that there would be no use for me. Im not looking for a hand holding just guidance. I'm pretty good with the SX-200 and 3300 now just not the T1 side and SX-50 side.
Posted By: telephoneguy Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/09/10 05:48 PM
It's kind of like... You know the joke about the guy who says to the IT guy, "My modem isn't working, so can you just put the internet on a floppy for me?"

Well, the thing that makes that joke funny is that there's no possible way to explain to the guy why that wouldn't work. It's kind of like that. There's a lot of foundational things missing, in order for the explanations to make sense. You do a lot better getting on the good side of a tech and getting him to teach you things from the ground up.

If your "small company" is trying to "get into hospitality" and won't give you funds to learn what you need to know, maybe you should look for a different company. Hospitality, and the telephony associated with it, are not something you learn by jumping in and doing it. I mean, what are you going to do if the Call Accounting starts to act up? Or the PMS interface?

thats already happened with our Tel elecronics boxes ive been doing this for a couple years. Like i said im pretty good at phone systems as long as they dont involve T1s or 50s. im pretty good at trouble shooting with micros and hilton. there pretty good at admiting when its their issue ATT etc. not soo much.

"im pretty good at trouble shooting with micros and hilton. there pretty good at admiting when its their issue ATT etc. not soo much."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And NOW you know what 'tg' means. Tel boxes are easy, mainly because they do only 1 thing and do it very well. And they have an EXCELLENT manual. (Must be, the end user can usually understand it to the point that they sometimes 'send' me to the manual!)

But there are WAY to many variables when it comes to PBX programming. It starts with the release! x.y.2 does something so obscure (versus x.y.1)that it takes a while for the word to get spread through the manufacturer's tech support! Oh, and it changes 2 other 'little' items and does away with something that requires changing 7 other programs!

You NEED the schools! Some of the resale outfits provide training if you buy a current system. PM me for my favorite.

Well I keep working on it and then update on what I find out. Thanks for the input so far laugh

Fred, I was gonna mention you, but your website doesn't mention training.

Sorry, LightningHorse, didn't mean to give away any secrets, but sometimes you have to spell the answer in capital letters... smile

I just kinda hesitate to mention companies here. It's kinda like free advertising!

Check bit signalling in Maint. I've seen several cases where ATT sends 1s instead of 0s when the circuit is idle.
Posted By: deadwalleye Re: T1 issue on an EL - 08/31/10 02:31 PM
Sorry it too me a while to reply to this. I ended up solving the issue by moving all of the programming for the t1 from form 14 to 15. Apparently form 14 doesn't supply a wink for ATT. Its just odd that having it programmed in form 14 worked until I took over the site. At any rate i'm just glad that its working.
