Trying to set the aa for a directory by dialing "4". Have set up a mailbox in form 50 for "4" being an info type. Can't I at that point go in and record a "directory greeting" for mailbox "4"? Do I need to, in form 50 make the extension "4" as well as the mailbox?

When I call in as administrator, I can listen to alternate greeting "4" which is the directory. When I dial "4" from the aa, it says " I'm sorry, no-one is available to take your call."

As far as I know'9' is reserved for the dial by name directory.

It's not a dial by name, it's just an info box where the customer lists the extensions and names verbally.

Did you record your greeting in mailbox "4"?

It doesn't give me that option. It wants a keystroke or something like a password.!?

FYI, once you direct calls away from the auto attendant, and into any type of a mailbox, you won't be able to transfer those callers to an extension. You lose that ability once you're out of the 'auto attendant'.

There's a default PW for mailboxes in the ICP EMEM. You can reset the PW in form 50, also.

55' is right about the AA transfer only working from the actual AA. What you may wish to do is to have the info box dump callers back to the AA after playing all the greetings.

We did that with one hotel that wanted a bunch of info boxes (For directions from US101 N, press 1; from 101 S, press 2; etc., etc.).

I think I missed something here.

In an ICP you can dial thru the following mailbox types:
Extension, Message Only, Information, and Front Desk.

If I understand what you are trying to do, I would set up a box as an information box as box 4, leave the extension number column blank, fill in the operator and then call the voice mail and log into box 4,record the list of users and extension numbers in the mailbox box greeting for 4. There may be a limit on how long the greeting is.
When callers get the auto-attendant they hit 4 and then can dial the extension from the list and will get transferred.

Is that what you are trying to do?

55 & telephoneguy,

You can transfer to an extension or another mailbox out of a mailbox, not just the AA. Try it out, once you get the greeting for a mailbox, dial a valid extension or mailbox number.

I stand corrected! Don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm ALWAYS right (LOL).

OK, I got it. I was trying to leave the greeting for mb 4 through the administrator instead of the mailbox itself. Thanks for the help! And yes, you can transfer out and about.

@ Fred, it took about 30 years, but my wife figured out that I wasn't always right. And, in fact, that I was generally FOS. smile
