A 7208 set on this system, after a simple move from a lunch room to an office, now when you lift the handset it activates the speaker. The guy can't get the phone to work through the handset, it's always on speakerphone. Is there a user activated feature to do this? Or did the phone develop a problem suddenly. No programming was changed when we moved the extension with it's existing number. Of course it worked fine until we moved it. Any ideas?

is the handset plugged into the headset port or the handset port on the bottom of the phone.

Mark, check to be sure the handset is plugged into the handset jack not the headset.

Customer claims it's in the handset port, I had him switch the phone out and another phone works fine. I musta broke it when I moved it. Right. Oh well. Paul can probably fix it for me.

Is the hookswitch stuck down?

I don't think that would activate the speaker when you lifted the handset. But I haven't been back to the site yet.

Just had the same problem on the phone in my kitchen. Just take it apart and clean the inside. Do not have the client do it though. This is a nice billable service call.

I usually take the phone out to the truck so the client doesn't see how easy it is.

Dave,
What do you clean? Do you use compressed air?

An after thought.

If you need to take it into the shop, leave them a temporary one. If they complain about the invoice, tell the one you left was on a rental basis & was included in the price. If they don't, it's great for PR. Haven't had a complaint yet.

Of course, if they had a maintenance contract, then no charge.

This is the office of a US Congressmen, they have a spare set. I'll just try the repair out on site in the truck like you do, thanks for the PM. Nortel is not really my Brand so I don't have any spares, their 3 offices are the only Nortels I ever see.

Check to see that every button bounces back up. I "fixed" more than one norstar phone by digging a piece of dirt out of a stuck button.

It was a stuck button. I cleaned it up good as new and it's back in service. Thanks to all.
