I have a Norstar Plus Modular ICS which I need to slot a PRI card and configure for ISDN so we can integrate it with another phone system. Can the card be slotted hot or does the system need to be powered down? Also programing a trunk and PRI card thru the phone??? Is there a console so I don't have to do programing thru the phone?

The card should not be installed hot - doing so may cause the system to reboot (I've experienced this 1st hand)

The programming is done through the phone. There is computer software but it's essentially the same as using a telephone. The programming is all in English but if you're not familiar with the system you should hire a Nortel tech to assist you for an hour or two.

I have the card installed, do I enable the card thru the maintenace?

I provisioned the DTI card for PRI thru the hardware option.

When changing the setting of the digital trunk card you need to disable the card in maintenance. When done changing the setting in hardware, enable the card back in maintenance.

It doesn't matter. Disable the card anyway.

That way if it WAS already disabled you just verified the correct way to do it.
And you need it disabled to Configure the card.

You should check out the manual.
It says:
Tips - For systems running 6.0 or greater software, a DTI card can be installed off-core on Module 3 or 4 on the Midi system, or module 7 or 8 on the Maxi system to expand the PRI
capability of your system. This card is only supported on Profile 1 and 4.

Note: Legacy DTI cards cannot be used off-core. A new DTI card was released in 2002 that can be used in any position. (listed above)

Just a thought, did you happen to buy the "permission"? And did you write down the number in 3 places and keep a copy in the customer's file? Do NOT lose that number. There is NO way to recover it, once it's gone! And Nortel is no help! frown John C.

I have a manual and it shows slots 3/4 on the main cabinet and slot 1 of the TM module. Don't know what you mean by profile 1 and 4??

By permission I hope you mean software password to activate PRI on the system?? No I didn't because they currently have a DTI card installed in the system, so I was hoping that once you activate PRI capabilites you don't have to do it again.

Ah ha..the missing PRI enabler key code.
Posted By: mgere Re: Configure PRI - 01/05/10 06:21 PM
But if they currently use PRI I shouldnt need the key again correct??

If they are currently using PRI in the existing MICS then no. Your original post said you were installing a PRI card to interface with another PBX. Was the MICS originally running a PRI circuit or standard T1?

What is the other system you are networking to? Do you have the MCDN keycode?

The other system is Shoretel. This what I found out while on site. They currently have two DTI cards (PRI) in the main cabinet, cd1/cd2. They both are configured in pool A and slot 4 card (cd1) channels 1 thru 23 and the 3rd slot card (cd2) has channels 31 thru 53 which doesn't make sense to me. I would think that both together should be channels 1-46. They both are provision as PRI/NI-2/ESF/B8zs, so what I tried to do is take the second card ch 31-53 and make that the integration card to the Shoretel. I set my PRI switch to the same settings as the DTI cd2 and connected with PRI X-over. Green lights physical connection good, but my switch doesn't see the D-CH, line code or framing. The cd2 that I want to use is set to time master and the other card cd1 is set to primary.
The Shoretel switch timing is set to slave so I tried to set the cd2 card from time master to primary, thinking it is a timing issue. When I trying to change the system wants me to change the cb1 card to time master. I didnt change the setting because all calls use the cd1 card and didnt know if that would affect calls.
Could the two DTI cards be bounded or use the same D-channel and that is why I can't get the cd2 to connect with my switch. I guess at this point I need to find a way to convert a existing DTI (PRI) to a stand alone PRI card with a seperate trunkgroup so I can integrate with.

NSF ext is set to NONE on both cards cd1/cd2
