Anyone else having a high rate of station card failures with the TDA100/200 systems? I've had 4 outright failures. 3 16dlc's and 1 8dhlc now on two different systems. I have no idea what may be causing it as the cards worked fine for about 6 months before failure. Just wondering what everyone else is experiencing and maybe someone can enlighten me?

Have had no failures. Make sure card is upgraded to match Version of Switch. Are you using other than 7600 sets? If so is the system within power limits?
Thats all I can think of at this time.

Yes, both switches have the larger power supply because the customer is using a mixture of old and new phones, although I would think that if I didn't have enough power, the phones just wouldn't get powered up/work as opposed to killing the station card. At least this is what happens on the smaller TDA50 if you don't have the second power supply for the older phones.

No problems here. TDA has been rock solid so far.
Still learning all the little in's and out's that Panasonic did not go over.
Posted By: MichaelV Re: TDA100/200 station card problem - 04/20/06 01:07 PM
Thanks for the response guys and girl. I replaced that card and guess what, it died within an hour after I left. Same thing, all 8 ports dead. We checked all the station cables connected to that card and no shorts and all phones were working before I left. Put in another card and this time moved it to the next slot over. So far its been 4 days and still OK. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

just had a 6 month old 16DLC card fail
after 6 months!!

There is a known issue with the 16dlc's. Panasonic will replace them for free. In fact, they have sent us a supply of them and requested that we change all cards pre-6C in the field.

I also had a 8DHLC blow today and took the switch with it. It's the first one I've encountered.

There is a tech. bulletin out there regarding the 16DLC's... I just don't have it in front of me.

If you have cards pre March '06, replace them now. Your customers will love you when their switches don't go down.

The updated "good" cards have red dots on either side of the s/n on the card itself.

PM sent... The bulletin is from Panasonic Canada. Not sure if this problem is only in Canada or not.

Out of about 35 SLC's I have in the field to date, I've had 2 failures, 1 was about 6 months old and the other about 9 or 10 months, but well within warranty period. The first one was in a 100 and the second one a TDA200. (FYI the card in the 200 was a SLC w/ message wait).

looks grim !!
Posted By: chris-pana Re: TDA100/200 station card problem - 06/24/06 08:29 PM
Yes I know this issue well. We have had about 15 boards so far go bad. The problem on the board (after talking to an engineer at Panasonic repair) is that there is a fuse that is underrated and various load imbalances such as small surges, ringing all phones simultaneously or a heavier power draw causes the fuse to pop. It is an on board fuse and cannot be popped out. It has to be sent back in so that a new one can be soldered on. All cards that have Version 3.0 firmware on them when you unbox them and plug them in are the new fuse version and are fine. Anything else is just a guessing game to wait and see.
Posted By: county wide Re: TDA100/200 station card problem - 06/25/06 04:44 AM
you'd think they just fit the card with a
removeable fuse!
Posted By: MichaelV Re: TDA100/200 station card problem - 07/17/06 08:07 AM
Well, I've had no issues now for 3 months but I'm a little worried about the rest of the station cards I have out there as I know they are not ver 3.0. I wonder if panasonic will just replace them to avoid a problem or do we all have to wait until they die?
Posted By: Capt. Canwrench Re: TDA100/200 station card problem - 07/18/06 01:33 PM
We're still replacing them under a recall up here in Canada. Panasonic is replacing all old cards with new or repaired ones. They're also paying us to replace them. We had another one drop last week on a 200 and dropped the system with 50 sets frown

I'll post the text of the tech bulletin in my next post...

PRODUCT Super Hybrid Digital PBX
MODEL KXTDA0172
SUBJECT Card inoperative
DATE April 24th, 2006
NUMBER PBX2006-02

TECHNICAL BULLETIN

Situation:

In July 15th., 2005, Panasonic Canada Inc. (PCI) offered an advance replacement program on the KXTDA0172 card to address the protector IP801 failure. Please refer to technical bulletin number PBX2005-08.
To-date, there is no recurring failure on the protector IP801 after replacing the protector with the 1.25A type rating. However, there have been situations where protector IP802 has failed.

Possible cause:

After analysis of the problem, it is determined that under heavy load and at certain temperature condition, there is not enough margin for IP802 (0.75A) resulting in IP802 failure.

Solution:

In consideration of the margin guarantee and circuit protection, the protector (IP802) of 1.25A type is used to replace the original one (rating 0.75A).

Inventory units:

As a preventive measure PCI has upgraded all KXTDA0172 in its inventory. As of March 17th., 2006 all KXTDA0172 cards are shipped with the new protector IP802. The upgraded card with serial number lower than 6DxxGxxxxx has 2 red dots (one dot on each side of the serial number) on the carton box and on the card. All cards with serial numbers 6DxxGxxxxx onwards are upgraded at the factory.

Repaired units:

All KXTDA0172 cards (with serial number lower than 6DxxGxxxxx) repaired at the service centre with IP801 and IP802 upgraded are marked with 2 red dots (one dot on each side of the serial number).

Field units:

Although the anticipated failure on the IP802 is significantly less than the failure on the IP801 there are some installations, which may have the conditions for both the IP801 and IP802 to fail. Being proactive, PCI is requesting that all KXTDA0172 cards at the dealer inventory and at the customer sites be replaced. To assist the dealers in effecting the replacements, PCI is offering the following program:

- Floating stock of KXTDA0172 cards free of charge to each dealer who has purchased such card. The cards are to be used strictly for this replacement program. The quantity of cards to be supplied will be around 10% of the quantity of cards purchased by the dealer until March 16th., 2006 with a minimum quantity of 1 or 2 cards as applicable.
- Reimbursement of $75 to the dealer for each customer site to cover travel cost and technician time in replacing all affected cards at the site. There is no reimbursement for dealer inventory units.
- The affected cards returned by the dealer are upgraded and returned to the dealer for the next replacement in the field.
- Dealers have 6 months from the date of receipt of the floating stock to claim for the $75 reimbursement.
- The warranty on all KXTDA0172 cards purchased over a year ago will be extended to March 31st., 2007. This warranty extension is applicable to cards with the original IP801 (rating 0.75A) and/or IP802 (rating 0.75A). Failures not related to the original IP801 (rating 0.75A) and/or IP802 (rating 0.75A) are not covered under this warranty extension.
- As a reminder, the deadline for the $75 reimbursement is six months from the date the dealer receives the floating units. The deadline for the replacement program is March 31st., 2007.

Capt. Canwrench ,
Thank you for keeping us updated. topic
I've yet to see anything on the B2B site or through the mail.
I wonder if this was only sent to Canadian dealers?
Thanks again, MrG

No worries...

I got it off the canadian service website as a technical bulletin. Your mileage may vary.

We are experiencing the same thing here. I told the boss about the Canadian website when I 1st heard about it 3-4 months ago. Not sure if they believed me or not, but the became believers! I'd estimate 10 16DLC's here.
