Hello all, one of my customers has a KX-TD1232 with a KX-TVS50 voicemail. Recently we had to make some changes with the automated attendant and the way the voicemail answers after hours calls. Since these changes none of the message waiting lamps work. These lamps worked before. Any help on getting these working would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I have the same setup as you in my office and have had this issue before. Did Message Waiting Lamp Status get changed perhaps?
To find that out you can go into the system manager's mailbox 999, press 2 to setup message waiting notification, then press 1 to enable/disable message waiting lamp notification.
Hope this helps some.
Thomas
"Recently we had to make some changes with the automated attendant and the way the voicemail answers after hours calls."
Also, be aware that if you changed your mailbox settings to "always transfer to mailbox", your lights will not light.
I checked in the manager's mailbox 998, it is set up for message waiting lamp enabled. So I do not think that is the issue. But, at night the voicemail is set up to always transfer to mailbox. I think that we have it set up this way so our customer's phones won't ring after they turn on night mode. Is this what you are thinking? Any ideas on a fix?
Thanks for the help!!!
That sounds like the issue. Do the message lights work in the day mode?
No, the message lights do not work in day mode either.
Maybe it would help if we knew a little more about the customer's setup. Does AA answer all the time, or just at night? Any idea how the menus are structured?
In day mode is mailbox set to transfer always to mailbox? Or can you dial out to an extension?
You can call between extensions. During business hours a secretary answers all calls, then transfers the call to the voicemail if the person they are wanting to talk to is out of the office or busy. At night the AA answers afer the second ring, gives "Welcome to the voice mail system" then prompt 1 is played, the recorded message gives serveral extension numbers to dial, extension 108 is used as a general delivery mailbox. Thanks for the help guys.
This is coming back to me because I ran into it in a new customer's in January. They had an old TVS-50 and it has something to do with message waiting notification and it's option 2. You have to turn it on at every extension. I think it's log in, dial 5 2 and turn it on. I don't have my 50 manual with me (and you have to have the CD because it's not on the Pana website anymore) but it was something obscure and simple.

I'll try it, but what do you mean by "log in". I have a KX-TVS50 CD, if you need a copy, just let me know.
I didn't remember, but I found it instead. You can download or refer to a 90 subscriber's guide for the same instructions. Log in and dial 6 2 1.
It should give the status and let you change or accept it. You still have to do that at each mailbox.

Cool, I'll try it tonight and get back with you.
Thanks again
I tried changing the message waiting lamp notification on each phone but they were all enabled, confusing? There is a also a setting for a "device", not sure if this has anything to do with it. Someone earlier in the post mentioned that if you have the calls forwarded directly to voicemail at night the lamps won't work, is this true and if so, what is the fix?
Thanks again.
From some of the things you've written, I believe that all of the mailboxes are set to always transfer to the box. You can call between extensions, but the receptionist transfers a caller directly into mailboxes if a caller is not available. It sounds as if anytime a caller dials an extension through thr AA, it goes directly into the mailbox. The lights will never light if this is true. My suggestion to see if this is true is go into system administration (mbx 999), other features, set up mailbox, assign or edit mailbox. Then enter a mailbox number and check the settings for that box. If you get to " all calls transfer to mailbox " and it's enabled, there is your problem. Disable this feature, call in and go to the mailbox and leave a message. See if the light come on.
Wow this is telephone message waiting, not rocket science. Go to 101, dial 701 and a working extension to leave a message. Does the light work? Go to the receiving phone and dial 700 plus its extension and see if it cancels.
If your lamp system works, it must be something in the vm. A message dropped in a box HAS TO LIGHT the message waiting lamp if everything is set up properly, the status of the "transfer" doesn't matter at all. I'd be checking something stupid like you have to tell the VM what extension owns the mailbox. (lady says the owner of the mailbox is)
Check your integration and message waiting sequence to make sure it didn't get changed. Obviously somethng changed when you did programming, you just have to find out what.

I may have missed this suggestion.
If you have class of service set up to "Transfer all calls to mailbox" then the message waiting lights will not work, EVER. I pulled lots of hair out the first time I tried to set one up so calls do not try and call the extensions.
Good suggestion, Stephanie. Welcome back.
Steph,
That's what I said!
That's just plain weird. I'm using call BLOCKING and it never rings the extension but plays the "sorry no one is available" message. If I dial "1" it leaves a message in the mailbox and lights the MW lamp.
Of course, my 710x codes still control the extension with call transfer features turned off.
If I go into the System Admin MB and force all calls transfer to MB, all calls go into the MB.
AND YOU'RE RIGHT!!! The MW lamp is suppressed until you turn the feature off :-)
I wonder why that is? VM is circle 2.

connect your laptop to the tvs - and go into program/utility - at the "$" sign type "PUTD" - this will put the screen into a diagnostic mode.
while watching the screen, call in and leave a test messege for a mailbox. after you hang up, the screen should show if the tvs tries to light the msg lite. (MWL on extxxx)- if it says that it tried to light the lite then yor tvs settings are correct and the problem might be with the td1232. (try reseting dpits - prog 117)
if the screen does not show that it tried to light up the light then try deleting the mailbox and re-assigning it. as long as "extension of owner" is set correctly the light should work - if it still does not work check "others/msg waiting notification" - also check cos settings make sure that "msg waiting notificaion" is enabled.
you can also try resseting "DPITS" in the tvs by going into hardware settings and change the system type to an analog and then back to td1232.
**remember to go back to the utility command and at the "$" sign type "PUTD" again to turn off the diagnostic mode.
Kevhawk,
I knew someone would have suggested that but I missed it. As far as I know all Panasonic voice mail systems are the same with that feature. I wish they would change it.
Have you looked using laptop, System Parameters, Other Parameters: Outgoing Call ports: at least 1 must be specified.
I had an NEC tech try to move and reprogram a customers Panasonic kxtd and TVS50. He did not use custom service as the greeting and the message lights would not work (as well as many other things). We had to default and start over. He changed the user prompt 819 into the greeting and menu.
Turn off prompts 248,249,250 and 819 and see if you have a greeting. Custom service is easy to work with and you can use one for day and another for night mode.
If you know that you have set this up right, you can delete a mailbox and recreate it to see if you can get the message light to come on. We have seen this from time to time.
we fixed the problem, "all calls forward to mailbox" was on. Turned off on each mailbox and the customer got their lights back on. The calls ring at the phone now for three rings and then go to the voicemail.
use send call to vm in the nite
custom service menus if you dont want phones ringing at night, messg lite will still work.
Burgie, thanks for the update!
If you want calls at night to go directly to the mailbox make a night custom service menu and change it to mbox instead of extn in the top portion of the custom service menu. (can't rememeber what the field is called) but you can have dialed extn numbers transfer either to the extn which is the default or to the mbox.
