I have a customer that has had problems with caller id that clear up when the unit is power cycled - annoying but not the end of the world. Recently the unit started to hang up on callers before going through the programmed number of rings. This also cleared up after power cycling the unit but this is a bigger issue for the customer than the caller id problem. This unit has been in place about 4 years. Any ideas as to what might be going on and any things I can try to permanently fix the problems.
Sounds like the memory battery/capacitor is 'going south'.

Try a program 99 memory reset. Your KSU shouldn't be on its way out already. I am using a 61610 from 1991 in my house. Did you check your line voltage. Somewhere close to 48VDC. I don't think that it is a KSU issue.

Could be an intermediate short on one of the tip and rings of a station. What type of CID problems? SMDR might be helpful here.

Thanks for the ideas. I will check the voltages and the memory the next time I am out at the customer's location. The CID simply does not display any info on any of the system phones.

The problem occurred again so I went out to troubleshoot and tracked the problem - the neighbors dog had dug up the AT&T line and was chewing on it. This was a first!
