Hi, I am trying to connect a ncp500 to a tvm50 voice mail box. I am using a DLC8 (port 17), which has been changed to a "Voice mail port" and doing just a direct connection with a cable from the controller to the vmail box.

The problem I am running into is that the port status is "FAULT". I called the supplier and he indicates that I am basically on the right path, but cannot explain why it is not working.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks!!

Jim

Port needs to be set at VM/cards/ports. Do you have Console?
Certified Tech? Is equipment registered?

Hi and thanks for the reply. Yes I have console and am certified but for Mitel. Hardware is registered @ the supplier.

Thanks!

Not to nitpick, but what does a Mitel cert have to do with Panasonic? Does that mean you're NOT certified?

If you're able to install the VM port properly, the silliest thing you probably overlooked is that you need the outer pins of a 4-conductor cable to interface the VM with the 50.

Correct, not certified for Panasonic. And yes, that is what my supplier told me as well. So from the controller on pins 3 & 6 I have made a cable that is rj45 on one end and rj11 on the other and on the rj11 the pins I am using are 1 and 4 (the outside ones). Even you seem to think that I am on the right track but I am clearing missing something.

Is the voicemail at default state? I think it doesn't recognize it until you program it, either quick setup or manually.

Just curious, which supplier sold you the equipment and is also offering up tech support to a non-certified Panasonic TDE/NCP dealer?

Hi, yes this question has me wondering as well. And I've run into an interesting problem. Using the default p/w it would appear that it has not granted me installer rights, but something lower. EG: I cannot change the LAN setting and cannot run the quick setup.

Is a "TVA" unit similar in operation to a "TVM"? Jack 1 is the one I am in and it only has 2. Documentation seems to indicate they are hybrid.

The supplier and I have a good working relationship as I provide support for them who are "non-certified" alarm techs.

What software release is the NCP at? I ran into an issue w/ a NCP500 that was at v4 software and had too many phones plugged in, and it crashed the card due to going over power budget.

Had to upgrade to v6 and re-register the system to overcome that and then was able to proceed.

Might be worth looking into.

That is something I will definitely look at. I've called the supplier for an onsite as I'm totally stuck.

Hopefully they will be able to figure it out and if was just some silly mistake I made, I'll post it here.

Thanks!!

I'm sure Ansatel can help you out but you should be using a straight through 4 conductor line cord from the DLC to the 2nd jack on the TVM.

Ok we got it figured out. The documentation for the TVM was faulty, it showed for "normal" operation, all the dip switches should be in the ON position. The tech called Panasonic directly and they confirmed this was not the case!!

Sure enough we switched them to OFF and bam! everything worked perfectly. And they say to RTFM!
