I have a Mitel SX-50 and we have setup the RS-232 port to send out messages to our PC. Recently, this port stopped sending the string that we use to do call accounting. Anybody know if somehow this got disabled or if the port is dead? It has worked since 1999 and I have also opened an Hypertimal window to capture the string, but I have a feeling that the SX-50 is simply not sending anything out on that port. Any suggestions for troubleshooting this would be great.
Thanks (My first Post)

Is this the round flat battery located on the right-side of the unit? It looks like a NiCd battery. Any suggestion as to whom to contact in the Baltimore-Washington area?

What will the dump data do? Is the RS-232 port a true serial port? We use only 2 lines to receive the data (Tx and Gnd), I'm guessing. This is connected into COM1 of my PC. Also, in replacing the Battery, will I lose all my configuration data and will the switch need to be reconfigured?
Does the *75# command enable the serial port?
I guess I can put an Oscope and see if any data is getting transmitted out of the PBX switch.

Data dump will eliminate any smdr programing, answer supervision if using it. It is a basic dump only that you can use your pc to see and when it starts and looks good quit out of it. *75# is resume printer in case it was suspended by mistake If you replace the battery with the power on you will be ok, remember polarity. Also what is position of switch 4 on the Control Card, must be open

Rather than an O'scope, while you are getting that CR2032 battery @ R/S, get a serial data monitor and 2 25 pin M/F cables so you can monitor the data full time. I say cables because you will probably discover that the LED's on the monitor will be against the wall and unwatchable! And a data dump is a big file that contains the entire program, not a bad thing to save to a file. But it can take over an hour if the baud rate is low. John C. (Not Garand)

Many years ago when I first started in this business, the company I worked for used to maintain Mitel systems. Personally, I never got into Mitel! Anyway, we had rash of SMDR failures, at least one a week. Turns out, a couple IC chips were the problem and these chips were readily available at the local RS. These chips were soldered in and as I had skills in this area, they were removed and chip sockets were installed then we just plugged in the replacements! So to all the Mitel mods, please forgive this lowly Comdial tech for treading into unfamiliar territory.

And the chips are 1488 and 1489, RS232 receiver and driver. At least around here, R/S no longer carries them, so we get 'em from Digi-Key. They're so cheap, we get 10 at a time, last a couple of years. And changing the socket is a good thing. By the way the SX50 uses a VERY TINY package that is not a 14 pin dip package, and NOT fun to change, for these old eyes! John C. (Not Garand)
