The Generic 217 memory support system consists of 3 1/3AAT batteries SOLDERED to the processor board. They are rechargeable, but they DO WEAR OUT. Mitel recommends changing them every 3 years.
To change the batteries, FIRST have a complete legible copy of the program, because the program WILL BE GONE WHEN YOU GET DONE. Shut off the Mitel, remove the processor and find a table to work on. The 2 boards must be seperated. If all is 'factory' there will be 5-6 fiber posts between the boards, with plastic screws through the boards into the posts. Remove the screws from 1 side. (Makes no difference which) The boards should still be stuck together. There are 2-3 rows of pins that connect the boards. They plug in tightly so gently work the boards apart. CAREFULLY, one bent or broken pin and the cards are JUNK! Remove and replace the batteries, using about a 47 Watt iron and rosin core solder (DON'T USE A SOLDERING GUN AND DESTROY THE BOARD). Put the boards back together, CAREFULLY! One bent or misplaced pin and the board at best won't work, at worst, it will BURN.

AS CAN BE SEEN, THIS IS NOT A JOB FOR THE MAINTANANCE MAN! You can get a replacement board with new batteries from several locations, on an advance exchange basis. It is recommended that you take advantage of that service.

How about clicking on the "Equipment" tab at the top of the page and see what their exchange price is? I'm sure they'd like to do business with you, and they DO support this web site. smile And of course there is fifty5footer who helps out here so much. John C.
