A new customer of mine has a Mitel SX-50. I spent most of day learning about Mitel programming. I moved them from old provider to another. They had a small punch list of things that had been haunting them. Took care of most of them. Mitel SX-50. Software 55.

1) I have one room that needs to be converted to DTMF. It currently has dial tone, but only uses rotary pulses to dial in-house or 9 to get out.
The room before and after are already using DTMF.
The room is set to Allow2.

2) They want unanswered calls to go to a cordless ext., then to a Auto Attendant where the caller has the option to choose rooms, front desk, or reservations. They don't have a Voicemail System anymore. I have it setup for going to the ext., but they don't every call that is missed to go to the call center because of cost.

1.) Is the phone in the room rotary, or just sending rotary pulses up the wire?

If it's the latter, then flip the switch on the phone to tone from pulse.

If the phone sends tones but the system refuses to accept tones, then match the programming for that extension to an extension that is known good.

2.) What about if unanswered calls rang to the Auto-attendant, which then bounced the to the cordless, which was CFNA to the res department??

I don't think the SX-50 will chain CFNA, and without a Voicemail to bounce the calls around, it makes your options very limited.

1.) It is a standard touch tone phone.
All the rest of the phones in the motel are tone. What is the code to change that option for ext. 226?

2.) That is what I thought too. Do you have a recommendation for a VM?

The last time I checked, Mitel MS-55 software allowed mixed stations, and in fact, didn't care.

The half price solution to your phone answering is an auto-attendant. In the secondary market, you can probably score a Call Management (CMP) Phone Extend or an EZ-Advantage EZ Director. (I think I have a 3 point something Phone Extend on the shelf).

It's what all the chea^h^h^h^h frugal operators use.

1. There is a bit in register 2 of COS that specifies 'rotary only'. First, find out what COS the phone is using. If the room is supposed to be like all the others, just change the COS. If you want it to remain in the same COS: Register 2 Bit H, change to 0. Should be 1 right now for 'rotary only'.

2. Change the unanswered calls destination to the ring group (Default Access code '497'). Put the AA extension in the group and set it to wait 2-4 rings before answering. Put the cordless in the group and answer before the AA does. NOT all AA's have answer delay as an option!
