They are putting the phone in a generic pouch that you would buy at Lowes/Home Depot. Putting the second one in this week. Will let you know. The Store Mgr office is in the front of the store, and that is where the base is. (On his desk, nothing special)

DECT has become so widespread here in Britain over the last few years that a lot of people now refer to any cordless phone as a "DECT phone" even when it isn't. On the U.K. market, we have units available with different power levels which can give operable ranges of up to 300 yards or so.

The crossover between DECT and GSM is highlighted by the fact that a combination phone/service was launched here a few years ago which uses a single handset. It picks up the DECT signal from its base station to make a call whenever available, and reverts to standard GSM cellular mode when taken out of range of the base. The British DECT uses the 1800MHz band, which is also one of our GSM bands (along with 900MHz).

Phonman123, let me know how the second install goes with the V-Tech phone and what model number it is if you don't mind. I've looked and there are several several V-Tech models...

Paul, I wish the models with different power levels were available here in the US...but they would have to be in the 1.9gig instead of the 1.8gig...otherwise I'd ask you to send me one to test.... :-)

I looked at a Uniden WXI2077 (if I remember correctly)...it's supposed to be water resistant but I have my doubts about the range. I think I'll get one to test anyway...

Thanks again!!

Bump...Phonman123, did you install the other DECT VTech phone? If so, how is the range compared to the EnGenius?
I'm still looking for a long range cordless...
Thanks..DT98
