Got a Customer that is having some message light problems (not coming on). I was there today to look at it and noticed it was running on 20051. I would like to start with upgrading it to the latest versoin. Would that be 20053? I have this and the instructions. My questions are.

About how long will the upload take?

Will it wipe out any programming or recordings.

Does the phone sys need to be upgraded also?

The upgrade to 20053 only takes minutes. Will it wipe out recordings? Probably. Plan on this and work the upgrade accordingly. Programming usually isn't altered, but be planning on it being lost as well since the performing of an upgrade on any flash-based system should be treated that way.

Yes, 20053 is the most current version and it's been fine under 20052, for quite some time. The upgrade really doesn't address your customer's issues from what I can tell. My guess is that the VM card wasn't initialized upon installation.

No, the phone system (STS) does not need to be upgraded, but you should do it at the same time just so that the customer isn't inconvenienced any more than necessary.

I think I will upgrade then initialize it. Thanks Ed.

Do I have to step it up to 20052 first, or can I go from 20051 to 20053?

No, I have not heard anything indicating that you must go to 20052 first. It seems to be working fine for us without stepping it up.

I had a MSG light problem on an STS this week. I power cycled the STS and the problem went away.

As far as the upgrade goes. Even though some of the programming is saved after the upgrade, I always Init. the system, upgrade, Init. the system then Init. the system again. The Main greetings will be saved but all else will be lost.
