I have a customer with a three month old STSe 4X8 that I installed. the system has worked flawlessly since installation. Got a call yesterday that the system auto attendant would not answer. I went to the site and ultimately found that some of the CO programming was defaulted (not all). I turned the system off and back on and most of the station programming seemed to default. I could find no explanation and once it was reprogrammed the system seemed to work fine. About mid morning today the customer called again with the same problem. I can see no obvious damage to the system such as burnt circuits. Any Ideas? With this being a new system I would not think it was a memory battery problem but that is what it seems like. Is the battery field replaceable? I don't think the customer is going to be happy if I have to send it in to have a battery replaced and they have to do with out a system for days. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Am I safe in assuming that the battery switch is turned on and the memory retention switch is turned off (DIP switch #8)?

What specifically should I be looking at on the power? I tried to talk them into a UPS but they were not interested. I did however install a high end surge suppressor power strip with EMI/RFI filter. Do you think I have had a surge or spike? I see no evidence of one and the supressor is still working. I am going to push the idea of a UPS again but do you think I have a bad memory battery? and is that battery field replaceable?

Yes the battery is replaceable, however i don't think that is the issue.

A. I would insist on a Breaker(20 or 15 amp) from
the breaker box to the outlet feeding the ksu.
no loop wiring (direct).

B. After same has been completed, i would take
my VOM and read all conductors associated with the outlet.

C. IMO take the power strip off the circuit for now.

D. No short cuts, we probably missed something on the original install which is coming back and
haunting us.

Remember, the ksu to power is the same as food to our body's.Pay me now or pay me later.

Oh one other thing. No first aid or bandaid...
(example ups/bbu or super doper power strip)

Once you are sure of the above, default both the
ksu and VM card.

Requires some effort on your part, but then you can say you done your best.
